2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWhy are some people and news orgs now using a (I) after his name now and calling him an Indie?
Has he rejected the Democratic-Socialist label now? Does this mean he may now going to run as an Independent if he doesn't get the Dem nomination?

Just conjecture on my part.
I know he is listed as (I) for his next race and I haven't seen the media things your OP references...

NanceGreggs
(27,817 posts)... that you can't suck and blow at the same time. Throughout his campaign, he has been the "political outsider" (who has never had a career outside of politics), and he's tried to woo Democrats to support him while still railing about how corrupt Democrats are.

NanceGreggs
(27,817 posts)... during the debates. When BS spoke, Hill watched him and listened, jotted down notes. When she spoke, Bernie spent most of his time trying to get the attention of the moderators - "Can I say something? Do I get to respond to this? Can I answer this?"
I get the distinct impression that Bernie rarely listens to anyone while they speak. He's one of those people who is too busy thinking about what he wants to say to be bothered listening to anyone else.

(6,719 posts)This looks suspiciously like a very prejudiced decision on the part those trying to relabel things. We have no respect for each other anymore. This drives people away, it does not bring people together.
kerry-is-my-prez
(8,133 posts)much of it or it's just coincidence. I hope so......

(6,719 posts)Still think someone or some stealth group is relabeling. Sanders never backed up from the socialist democrat label. My trust level for CNN/MSNBC is mighty low. You said you saw it and I do trust that. Another supporter used it. OK I am out of the loop. I intend to become I myself after the primary. So I have no trouble with I. Just a surprise. I am really sorry about all the overt attacks recently. Was reading about the Bernie FB groups being taken down. Seems so unnecessary. Makes me sad. This actions certainly are not about unity!! or democracy. I hope some serious research is done on this election cycle and a book written.
Am watching the PBS program on national parks. Monday night at 8 pm. It is a new series. I do not know how many program but really good and worthwhile. Check it out next week!

(154,021 posts)We have used (VT-I) from well anytime we have reported on Sanders. It is the AP standard. Leahey, Senior Senator, uses a D, since he choses to do that, but Sanders does not. So who am I to question that from him?

(5,790 posts)Sanders is the only one that seems to have a problem embracing being a Democrat.
nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)MEMBER OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY, in that state it means, I know the translation is needed they are part of the PARTY MAINTAINED ROLLS
And you know what. This should be the standard across every state in the Union. The State, as in the Registrar, or the BOE or any other name you want, should have no hand in maintaining those PARTY ROLLS.
Is this now Crystal clear?
Algernon Moncrieff
(5,790 posts)Sanders could be a Democrat. He choses not to be one.
nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)I wish at times he ran as an independent, which he will not. Your party needs to wake the fuck up...but then again, after the endorsement from Charles Kock, yours is a chamber of commerce right wing party. So enjoy it. You still need the despised left if only to win. These tactics will make sure more than a few will stay home in November.

(27,247 posts)" Do I have to register as a Democrat, Republican, Independent or some other party in Vermont?"
"No. There is no party registration in Vermont. "
https://www.sec.state.vt.us/elections/frequently-asked-questions/voter-registration.aspx
nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)you got it. As I said, it is manual of style.
The other State Senator is registered with the PARTY. Which is the choice for D.
And for the record EVERY state should do the same, Parties should handle those party registrations.
Art_from_Ark
(27,247 posts)and he is running in the Democratic primary.
George Wallace was a Democrat, but he was listed as AIP (American Independent Party) in the '68 election.
John Anderson was a Republican, but he was listed as "Independent" in the '80 election.
nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)but the manual is quite clear. Until he JOINS THE STATE PARTY, he he has not. (And for the record I don't blame him).
It is quirk in the damn manual of style. Don't shoot me, shoot the AP slylists. I am not seeing a great conspiracy here, because I know it is the manual and media has been referring alternatively as independent ruining for the Democratic nomination, or running for the democratic nomination.
With Clinton they have been using Secretary Clinton, (I do use the (D), or simply running for the democratic nomination the first time they come in an article.
Personally I think the AP style will have to come with a new way of doing this, becuase I doubt Sanders will be the last I to run. But they don't ask me, but will gladly take my money every year.

(1,511 posts)If it is happening then it is most likely to do with the Correct the Record and the HRC camp's attempt to delegitimize him. As a Dem on the DU, I want him top stay to the end, since right now neither person has enough to win.
nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)it has not one thing to do with Correct the Record...
northernsouthern
(1,511 posts)I was asking because there are no links. Correct the Record is just the tip of a concerted effort that has been going on since the start with the fake Bernie Bro meme. So I am just using that to refer to the Machiavellian propaganda arm of the HRC campaign. I would also be worried if they start showing him as an I more since people may use the I as a reason to kick people that support him from places that are supposed to support Democrats only. He will always be a dem in my heart.

And I responded to the OP originally since this is well silly

(4,311 posts)Because they use their last title until/unless they get a new title (like POTUS). So Bernie is Senator Sanders (I-VT) and Hillary is Secretary Clinton.
Thus has it ever been so.
