2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWould I really be on a conference call with the president?
I just received an email from the Obama campaign inviting me to join in on a conference call with the president. The email says that he wants to thank some of his most dedicated supporters and to talk about the upcoming week and maybe take a couple of questions.
Has anyone ever gotten an invite or done one of these calls? Is it really the president or a recording? I guess if he's offered to take a couple of questions it can't be a recording.
If I get to be on the phone and listen to the president talk to me (us) how cool is that??!!

(2,795 posts)This is just really impressive. A president taking time to thank groups of regular supporters out in the land like us.

(149,627 posts)I hate to rain on your parade.....I felt easily as excited as you do now....but.
They invite probably hundreds of people, and it is very tough getting through. I think the folks that did manage it, started calling before the official time.
And nobody got to talk to him. They just listened. At least that was what I was told, by someone who did get through.
It really is the President.
Sorry to let you down.
I wish they wouldn't overbook these events.

(2,795 posts)Maybe I'll try to call a bit before the scheduled time. But if I don't get through, now I understand it a bit more. I was thinking it was like a manageable number in the group that those invited would be able to get through.
Oh well, I'll still give it a try and see what happens

(1,693 posts)Yes, the President actually comes on the line, live, and talks to supporters. A couple were even (pre)chosen to ask him questions! It was really, really cool.

(2,795 posts)I couldn't see willard taking time to speak to his minions. Though I'm sure he's done plenty of thanking and groveling to Sheldon Adelson and the Karl Rove.

(2,795 posts)I just followed the link in the email to say "I'm in" and then it took me to a page that said to come back to that page at the specified date and time. Will there be instructions on what to do or a number to call

(417 posts)i was on a conference call Thursday night, David Axelrod was the special speaker.
SEIU called on Wednesday and said to expect the call about the same time Thursday.
I suppose it is possible that The President could speak on a conference call, but it seems more likely that he will be busy doing other things, walking, chewing gum, responding to a major storm, beating Bishop Willard like a rented mule...
