2016 Postmortem

Does anyone have an idea at this point? I'm serious too, never underestimate an opponent, what are they planning? Are they as directionless and flailing as they appear? Will they get behind Romney enough to give him a chance?
It certainly seems that they are in total disarray right now, but we've seen them in trouble before, just wondering what is next for them given the last few months of trouble for them?
Old and In the Way
(37,540 posts)Just like we should be doing. I think a clear majority of American voters have seen enough of the Republican candidates in action to know that none of them are worthy for the Office of President.

(13,603 posts)Even though the MSM will create the illusion of a "horse race" between Romney and Obama to keep people tuning in and watching their ads (the MSM stands to rake in almost $1 billion in political ad sales this cycle if they do this,) the only races really in play are in congressional districts where there are a lot of crazies. So they "catapult" the silly culture issues to motivate the crazies to the polls.
Their strategy is 2008 redux
Jeremiah wright, birth cert, transcipts, whitey tape, solyndra, fast/furious and debt mountain.
The pubs will have a crap candidate the only chance they have is to swift-boat the President

(904 posts)They will regroup behind Mr. Cold Fish Business-y Businessman Romney. It will be about gas prices and the economy.
They are banking on the fact that the American people are addicted to cheap gasoline and ignorant as to the real reason prices are rising.
"Obama doesn't want to drill for more oil, blah blah blah. Obama blocked a precious oil pipeline that would have given everyone a job and made gas $2 a gallon, blah blah blah."
Their hope is that Obama will be another Jimmy Carter.
Proud Liberal Dem
(24,415 posts)I'm sure that the election will have *something* to do with Iran as well. As we well know, THAT joint project- between the Republicans and Netanyahu- is already underway.

(2,090 posts)Unfortunately for the Republicans, they don't have a Clinton. Or even a Perot.

(1,122 posts)I suspect Republicans are deliberately losing 2012.

(20,450 posts)concentrate on local, state and congressional offices.
This is why I and many others have been screaming at the top of our lungs for the past 3+ years that this is where we should be putting our efforts into.
Not that the presidency isn't important. We need to do everything to see to it that Obama is reelected.
HOWEVER...
Progressives and Democrats are getting crushed at the local and state office level. The Teabaggers are taking over state legislatures, and there are more ReThug governors and judgeships than ever before.
As for Congress, we simply have no choice. If we really want Obama to continue to fulfill his campaign promises, we need to give him an overwhelming majority in the House and a filibuster-proof majority (THAT CONSISTS OF MORE PROGRESSIVES, NOT BLUE DOG DEMOCRATS) in the Senate.
Proud Public Servant
(2,097 posts)If the GOP picks up all their likely states plus OH, FL, VA, NC and one other battleground (NH would be easiest), they win. If I were them, I'd be developing a 5-state strategy, starting with putting Bob McDonnell on the ticket. Probably wouldn't work, but it's their best shot.
