MARION, Ohio With eight days to go until the election, President Barack Obama has recaptured a narrow national lead over Mitt Romney, riding increased support from women and an edge in early voting.
A new POLITICO/George Washington University Battleground Tracking Poll of 1,000 likely voters taken from last Monday through Thursday shows Obama ahead of Romney by 1 percent, 49 to 48 percent. That represents a 3-point swing in Obamas direction from a week ago but reflects a race that remains statistically tied.

Even Politico has to give it up, Obama is surging.

(2,702 posts)Especially from Politico. Usually a 1 point lead is only called a lead if it benefits Romney. When it's Obama it's usually a dead heat. Wonder why the change?

(90,061 posts)They already have credibility issues, and there seems to be plenty of competition in the poll business these days.

She did say the hurricane will help stall the 'momentum' and it makes Obama look presidential.

(8,377 posts)The stupidity of our national media is just astounding. How could they have made it this far n the campaign and still nut understand that there isn't a single word of their analysis that is the slightest bit relevant?
The only thing that matters is how these states go: OH, WI, IA, NH, VA, NC, FL, CO, and NV.
I don't understand why anybody would spend any money at this stage for a poll that only produces a national number. They might as well poll Tasmania. It is completely irrelevant to our election.

Please note that they call this a "Battleground poll" but it is national.

(26,623 posts)We are trying to invent an "I already voted" button for our remote that would block the insanity.
Went to a local establishment last night to watch football... yea Broncos! Couple of guys I didn't know were talking after an Obama commercial. One says, never thought I could vote for a black guy, but I know I can't vote for a Mormon. I said, "I don't care who you vote for.. there are at least 6 candidates on the ballot including Gary Johnson.. but DON"T vote for the Mormon!" Then, with my husband dragging me out the door, I said "this county has come a long way since 2008, and a lot of that was stimulus money. My husband drove a cement mixer in 2009 and 2010 and more than 50% of their work was from the federal stimulus money! Wake the fuck up, people!" and all that with only two touchdown shots in me, I was driving, we went home at halftime.

(15,438 posts)is an indicator of Romney's momentum. The results are in so far for Romney's most favorable swing state he supposedly has put away according to Gravis Marketing and Rasmussen's Polling. Joe Scarborough also believes this. Over 1,500,000 people have voted so far in North Carolina's early voting. President Obama has a significant lead in North Carolina's early voting with over 2,000,000 expected to vote when it is over. It is looking very much like President Obama will go into Election Day with a significant lead on Mitt Romney in North Carolina the same as 2008. The Republicans are going to be playing catchup on that day to erase the deficit. Right now, the Dems have a 50% to 31% lead on Republicans. It also reflects that in the Polling of people that has already voted for Obama versus Romney. So forget the Polls, Romney is behind in North Carolina.
