Cincinnati (OH) Herald Endorses President Obama

If you have followed The Cincinnati Herald over the past five years, you will certainly know the candidates we favor for President and Vice President. We are more than creatures of habits. There are clear substantive reasons to support President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.

We will highlight a few. It is well documented that President Obama inherited a horrible economic situation. He has provided a solid framework for future economic growth. By saving the automobile industry, he certainly helped Ohio’s economy and the country’s economy. Our country has had 31 straight months of private sector job growth and added over 450,000 manufacturing jobs since January 2010.

In foreign affairs, President Obama has been particularly strong. America has regained its leading position in the world. He ended the war in Iraq. He has gotten the country’s number one enemy, Osama Bin Laden.

He has shown true courage through his support of the Affordable Care Act or Obamacare. He certainly could have taken the easy political path and not pursued it. However, he sought to provide health care coverage for those without.

Our basic problem with his opponent, Governor Mitt Romney, is trust. Whatever his positions are today, they will certainly change tomorrow. It is remarkable to us that Gov. Romney’s supporters don’t seem to mention his flip-flops on issues that appear to be so important, like, Obamacare (which is similar to the bill Romney passed in Massachusetts) and government debt (while governor, he substantially increased his state’s debt). In the third presidential debate, we saw Gov. Romney change from criticizing President Obama for announcing that we would withdraw our troops from Afghanistan in 2014, to Gov. Romney affirming we will withdraw our troops in 2014. We add significantly that while Gov. Romney’s running mate, Congressman Paul Ryan, is well versed in budget issues, we see him as lacking the depth and breadth of knowledge to be Vice President or President.
