(94,585 posts)Delaying the numbers, good or bad, would seem to be a very bad idea, unless they assume markets will still be closed on Friday.

(1,828 posts)People aren't working for at least today and tomorrow. I assume that's two days of lost work on putting the report together.
Doesn't matter anyway. If the numbers are good, the wingers assume they're cooked. If bad, they'll crow. If they get held, let em whine.

(4,551 posts)Isn't it likely to be a good one? Gallup's numbers are showing unemployment down around 7.2%

(182,825 posts)Friday jobs report to be delayed?
http://www.usatoday.com/story/theoval/2012/10/29/obama-romney-jobs-report/1666153/
"We will assess the situation when the weather emergency is over and notify the press and public of any changes at that time," said Gary Steinberg, spokesman for the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the data arm of the department.
From The Wall Street Journal:
"The Labor Department is also scheduled to release its third-quarter employment cost index Wednesday, and the third-quarter productivity and weekly jobless claims reports Thursday.
"The most closely watched is Friday's jobs report, which will give the final measure the unemployment ahead of next week's presidential election.

(6,160 posts)The government shut down due to the storm is all a big conspiracy. You know that is what they will say.

(19,458 posts)I was just thinking about how these kinds of storms always tank the unemployment numbers, as so many people can file for temp unemployment when the storms hit.

(102 posts)They interview people in the second week of the month I believe. So this delay is just about putting the numbers together, not actually getting the data.

(14,755 posts)It's not good for Obama if the numbers were positive, but at the same time it CAN'T help Romney if the numbers were poor.

(242 posts)I WANT the Jobs Report to come out. Numbers are looking better. Gallup's 30 day average is down to 7.2%. It was only 0.1% off the actual number last month. I want to see the RWNJs explode when it drops again!

(3,003 posts)...because we all KNOW that the Wall Street Journal is really a "left-wing rag" that's in bed with President Obama. I actually had to cancel my subscription with that newspaper back in 2009, because I couldn't STAND it's editorial comments. The last straw was when they called the health care bill "Fannie Med." Nothing but a propaganda publication for the far right.

(340 posts)the the unemployment rate was likely to stay at 7.8% after adjustments. so a delay would be good for O if anything.
on a side note...Alex Wagner is kinda delicious.

(28,158 posts)Which is good for us.
I saw where the Labor Dept. was supposed to still be getting them out in Friday.
On edit, and I hope this works on my phone this time.
"The employees at the Bureau of Labor Statistics are working hard to ensure the timely release of employment data on Friday, November 2," the statement said. "It is our intention that Friday will be business as usual regarding the October Employment Situation Report."
The immediate reaction on Twitter was sharply negative, with conservatives saying it was convenient that the report which could provide bad news for President Barack Obama would be delayed. And many Democrats warned that a delay in the survey would undermine the nonpartisan office's credibility with the public already strained from baseless, but widespread, accusations that they gamed the numbers in September.
