OR legislator (R) insults female legislator (D) on the house floor!

As reported on the front page of the Portland Oregonian Saturday:

It was a tense day on the House floor Friday as 2112 Legislature continued to search in vain for an exit plan. One Republican member told a Democrat to "shut your mouth"...

Representative Carolyn Tomei called for a formal apology after Re. Wayne Krieger told her to "shut your mouth."

A scandalized Tomei demanded an apology, saying "I have never in my life been shouted and been told to shut my mouth." No apology came.

I know Carolyn Tomei. She is a wonderful, grounded woman who has served the public and the public good for decades. A strong woman, and an extremely skilled communicator.

You are so right. No one should ever be told to cease talking, especially when they are talking. I am sorry Carolyn's skills in communication were usurped. I'd sure like to read the transcript, so I could fully understand what the Oregonian was trying to report. I'm forwarding this event to Tucker Max, he certainly will champion this cause.

7. Rep. Tomei is a civilized woman.

She's been a college professor, a social worker and mental health consultant, a mayor, and a legislator (twelve years now). She's a wonderful, warm woman. Her husband is Yale educated; an artist and architect. She's not a shrinking violet by any means, but not used to being directly attacked verbally.

I would have first replied: Go to hell you mysoginistic son of a bitch. And then I would have continued to talk over him till HE SHUT UP.


Once they know we (WOMEN) will no longer 'shut up' just because some blow hard with testicles said to; that we have no intention to go back to the 'barefoot, pregnant, chained to the stove' days; that they (MEN) are the minority in this country the better off things will be for everyone.


The GOP really miscalculated on this one. They broke from their game plan. Traditionally, they divide and splinter peoples and pit them against each other. This time they went 'gender'......they crossed all ethnic, relgious, regional lines........they united an entire gender against them..........catholic and protestant are joining forces (the enemy of my enemy is MY friend)........the enemy is the GOP.

She says the Republican who tried to shut her up was dressed all in camo.
