I guess a lot of the South really hasn't gotten over the Civil War!

That is the easiest way to explain why state and local governments thereabouts are so screwed up. They have carried that butthurt for generations.

This may explain why Pew has them tied among likely voters.Has Obama up 2 In regisered voters and claims Republicans are
more enthustic about voting.

Also notice Pew has the West as Obama's best region. That gives obama Colorado and Nevada.

Remember Romney can win the entire south but lose election.Even then that doesn't mean Obama will lose all 3 of his 2008
southern states.

And I think the Romney campaign knows that as well.

Also, I don't really think that Romney has as much appetite for racism and the rank and file Republicans.

So he just cancels his campaign event in OH.

what the hell is it with the south? I know there are many good people that live there, but damn, their history is so fraught with racism and ignorance. Is it something in the water? Pretty much every advance America and the world has made in the last 200 years in the area of social progress has been violently opposed by the south and continues to be so to this day. Slavery, civil rights, and now things like health care, gay rights, and environmental protection. It's all the devil as far as the south is concerned.

I'm helping to care for an aged parent, but as soon as I'm able, I'm getting the wife and kids and getting out of this hellhole. Bank it. I have many liberal friends here, but they are islands in a sea of right-wing racist and religious idiocy. Life is too short.

We still haven't gotten over the Civil War and, yes, dividing the poor by convincing poor whites to vote against their own interests in order to make sure poor blacks stay in their place is still a winning strategy here.

Maybe one day we'll rally around the American flag as equal citizens of the United States and stop worshipping the dead carcass of the CSA.

Til then, the South will remain the most impoverished, least educated, and most red part of the country.
