2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWTF is going on with Early voting in Florida ....
Ok, now that I have your attention, calm down and start breathing and maybe change your underwear.
SurveyUSA has a tied poll of Florida, link here:
http://www.surveyusa.com/client/PollReport.aspx?g=7160c83f-98c8-4802-9758-bd492cdeb362
Poll taken from 10/25 to 10/27 so only one day of in-person early voting was included. However already 23% of those polled had already voted. One has to assume that the majority of these were Republican heavy absentee votes (Assumption alert). However, Obama leads 57% to 42%. From other reports, Democrats only overtook Republicans on 10/28. Now I know a lot more Democrats voted absentee than before, but my reasoning makes me feel good about Florida being ours.

(26 posts)If Romney wins Florida then you know it's going to be because of voter fraud

(45 posts)I look at polls in Virginia, Colorado, Ohio, Florida, etc., and I am starting to fear that fraud will exceed the margin of error.
Am I being paranoid, or could it really get that bad?

(136 posts)polls don't matter if conservatives are manipulating vote counts.
johnson_z
(45 posts)If manipulating vote counts can turn the tide, how do we respond, with out turning to the same under handed conduct?
I refuse to lower myself to the level of voter fraud and voter suppression, but what does that leave?

(136 posts)we can only hope Obama wins by a large enough margin that there is no way for them to fake the outcome. It is a very hopeless feeling, but there's not much else to do at this point. At least the courts have been our side with voter suppression.

(45 posts)But it sure does piss me off, that fraud, rather than just vote counting is even an issue...

(3,003 posts)Get as many Obama supporters as possible to the polls so that his margin of victory will be too big to manipulate. I've been saying it for over a week now...it's all about GETTING OUT THE VOTE (esp. in the swing states).

(653 posts)The Dems are doing great with early voting in FL so far (assessed according to party registration) - better than 2008.
Voted yesterday in Florida and most of the people on the long line were for Obama. But it was South Florida, and we hope that the Obama majority here can overcome the repub majority in North Florida.
Heard the ballot was long creating huge delays. How long did it take?
I voted in Maryland and waited 3 hours. Maryland is not in contention though. Our area is 70% Dem. Republicans run but no one cares.

(136 posts)but i was very familiar with the ballot. There are 12 amendments on the ballot with confusing language and i heard multiple people at the polls talking about how they weren't sure how to vote on them...by the way, if anyone asks vote no on ALL OF THEM!

(13 posts)I voted yesterday in Santa Rosa county (near Pensacola) and it was packed. Waited about 1 hour versus 5 minutes in 2008. This is not a good thing since it is approximately 80% republicans in this area. The ballot wasn't too bad here (2 pages front and back).
Will definitely need a strong turnout in South Florida to put these Obama-hating birthers and low-information rednecks in their place. Come on South Florida! Vote in huge numbers and give these idiots the shock of their lives. They believe Obama has no chance of taking Florida. Today's Survey USA poll says otherwise: Obama 47 - Romney 47.
We're doing well in South Florida, and the people on line were overwhelmingly pro-Obama.
At this point, all we can do and wait. Fortunately, Obama can afford to lose Florida while for Romney a victory is crucial.
We waited about 1 hour on line in Coral Springs, a fairly heavily populated area not far from Boca Raton. Mostly pro-Obama crowd on line was jovial and optimistic, and with chatting and conversation, time flew by.

(6,342 posts)According to the Tampa Bay Times, a Mason-Dixon poll is showing Romney has a 6 point lead in this critical part of the state.
If that's true, Obama is going to lose Florida. When a candidate loses those I-4 counties (area between Tampa and Orlando) in a state-wide election, it's usually a bad sign because it is a swing-vote area of the state and seems to serve as a bell-weather.
We'll see. But I haven't been confident on Florida in a long time. When Florida elected Rick Scott and a veto-proof GOP legislature in 2010...it was a reminder that this state is still very red at heart.

(34,857 posts)Some of their final '08 polls:
Ohio:
McCain +2
Pennsylvania:
Obama +4
Two polls that were way off.

(609 posts)Also, many Florida seniors (not all) have always betrayed the Dem Party. They have used them and stabbed them. Seniors in FL seem to be different than seniors elsewhere.

(827 posts)but it won't be cause of that. Please stop the conspiracy theories.
Note that the republicans are also calling for voter fraud issues if they lose. Feel like being lumped in with those crazies?

(2,679 posts)for Obama of course. The line was getting bigger. The people working were saying it was real busy over the weekend but that it as been steadily busy throughout. They said best time was in the evening around 6-7pm still busy just not as busy.
For me the hardest part was finding parking.
It did take a while in the booth but not because I didn't know what to vote, it was just filling in the bubbles. I did do one write in, and only because it was a rethug running unopposed, I wrote in Jesus. And then there was one for commissioner that you can't see the party but my neighbor had sign up in his yard for one of the candidates in that race but since he also had a rMoney I voted for the other person on the ballot.

(190 posts)I've lived here in South Fla (Palm Beach Cty) for almost 30 years, and I've NEVER seen lines as long as they were today! Poll workers told me it's been like that since early voting started on Saturday. The group looked pretty much democratic from what I could tell. There were a few rmoney voters, but if I had to hazard a guess, it would be about 65-35% Dems. Of course Palm Beach Cty is a democratic stronghold, but a good sign nonetheless.

Thank you!

(190 posts)I appreciate the sentiment. I have a bad back, and it was tough standing in line for over 2 hours, but it's too important not to do! I'm a little sore but to be honest, I'm really stoked at the turnout! GObama 2012!
