2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumAnyone else still like both Sanders and Clinton?
Or am I alone in that? I prefer Bernie as far as policy goes but I like Clinton and have no problem supporting her this November. I believe her to be a good center-left Democrat ( with the exception of foreign policy, where I'd judge her to be center-right).

(1,216 posts)Bernie more closely advocates for what I believe in. I will vote for Hillary but my heart is with Sanders. I'm also afraid she will ultimately ruin the democratic party. I think, at least by the next election, we could be headed for trouble like the repubs are now

(11,931 posts)But IMO it's Bernie first. If he is not the nominee, than I will get behind her as I've been behind him this past year.

In all seriousness, I agree. I like both of them and will gladly pull the lever for whomever is the nominee in the GE.

(14,087 posts)I'm ecstatic that Bernie has done as well as he has! A self described Democratic Socialist winning maybe 20+ States would've been unthinkable in previous cycles.

(4,835 posts)And I don't hear it very often.
One of the reasons that I do not support Sanders is because he is a self proclaimed Democratic Socialist, and while I have no problem with that, I don't think it'll stand up to republican scrutiny in November.
...But, he has said that he is a socialist all along and has gotten quite a bit of support despite that.
Perhaps a growing number of Americans are beginning to understand what socialism ACTUALLY is and that there is quite a bit of it in the country already.

(3,660 posts)Your assessment is similar to mine except my slight Sanders bias is more based on style than policy, where I like some of each candidate's positions depending on the issue, roughly equally although can't say I've gone to the extent of using an enumerated matrix.
I'd be perfectly content to see either as POTUS.

Either one would get my vote in November.

(8,759 posts)Bernie's my guy, but I can live with Clinton. Change takes time and a collective effort. One guy at the top of the White House, while symbolic, won't get 1/10th of the change we seek.
I have no problems voting for Clinton should she be the nominee in November and continue to struggle for progress and I will jawbone at her as part of that struggle.

(10,164 posts)...is that she's center-right on economic and foreign policy matters, center-left on social issues (at least those of no import to Wall Street), and centrist on the rest. At least as much as her continual flip-flopping allows one to have any opinion of her positions...
Those center-right areas are a problem for me...but perhaps not as much of a problem as what I perceive to be her lack of character.

(10,074 posts)I would add that after watching several hours of her Benghazi hearing testimony, character flaws aside, I found her to be very presidential. I voted for Bernie in the Primary, but will vote Hillary in November as she will be the democratic candidate for president.

(1,577 posts)As Bernie said "Hillary on her worst day is better then ANY REPUBLICAN on their best day"
I cannot understand the open warfare and genuine hatred here when the threat of a real, pure FASCIST DICTATOR that Trump is is staring us in the face.
Some have even touted Trump is better on some issues than Hillary...are they insane?
Trump is an UNKNOWN, UNPREDICTABLE egomaniac who spouts gibberish and hubris and I would gladly, gratefully take either of our candidates and I will work hard for either one when the time comes.
I've said it before here and I will continue to:

(14,087 posts)My most intense primary was 2008. I loved Obama and hated Hillary throughout that primary season. I thought I could never like her again, but once Obama sealed the deal I admired the way she worked her ass for him and by August I had already forgotten any animosity that I had had toward Hillary.

I will support either candidate in the general election.
If I stayed home and pouted and threw a hissy fit every time my preferred candidate did not win the primary I would have voted in few, if any general elections.
This election is about keeping the Republican out of the White House. The thought that Donald could appoint Ted Cruz to the Supreme Court is motivation enough to vote.

I know it's a mixed complement, but she does have that skill set.
It's just not one that I want representing our nation, it's too dishonest.

(47,201 posts)with Bernie's explanation for continuing his campaign. I think he could have made a convincing argument for continuing instead of the one we got. But putting that aside, I still appreciate having his voice there on the issues, and I hope this all ends well so we will be a strong unified party going into the general election.
Do I still like them both? Yes.

That said, I'd vote for him over a Repub. any time.

Bernie is a very weird man. http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/politics/2016/05/bernie_sanders_electability_argument_is_still_a_myth.html
I get where he is coming from on this stuff, but it is weird and makes him very vulnerable to a sustained and pointed attack by an opponent in a general.
