Yes, seniors in Florida should worry about Medicare

The Romney campaign is trying to tell them that, hey, you are older than 55, you've got yours, don't worry. And he is leading in Florida.

But the operative words here are "donut hole." Parts of the cuts in Medicare that Obama enacted were used to fill - partially, at least - the "donut hole." I've never understood why it was even part of the drug plan. Once a senior and the insurance paid a certain amount of money - $2,800, I think - the senior is responsible for all future payments until he reaches "catastrophic" level. $4,900, I think.

And seniors use many medications, many brand name that are not getting any cheaper.

So next time a senior - in Florida or other places - says that Ryan plan will not affect him or her, mention the phrase "donut hole."

My mom is 89. She's a lifelong Dem who worries about the R's destroying the safety net for my generation and my daughter's generation. She frequently expresses her blunt opinion that people who vote R are "stupid." Her favorite meme lately is "Why would I vote for a millionaire who hides his money overseas?" Why, indeed.

about the safety net for our kids and grandkids and the future kids. We need the safety net because people aren't rich. If republicans get their way they will even take the minimum wage away. They will allow children to work at younger ages. That scares me to death.

except for their cronies.

Romney, like Perot in 1992, wants to run a government "like a business." Running a successful business meaning, among other things, getting rid of losing assets.

In government dictionary, these would be the poor, the sick and the elderly. Of course, they always think that the poor and the sick and the elderly are at fault. They will never get seriously sick and lose everything trying to pay for expensive care. They will never lose their jobs or their businesses because of a bad economy. They don't need government assistance until... they need.

As Romney said - he will send an ambulance to take a dying patient to the hospital. But will not provide support to this patient does not arrive at this stage.

those "unaffected seniors" will be facing a big surprise, if/when they are faced with long-term residential care (e.g., nursing home/assisted living) under the ryan budget.

it because of the less then 55 year old group opting to not pay in, but to buy into the voucher. So Medicare will be gone even for those of us on it already...I'm scared that he'll get in and make my life harder again. I just finally retired and am comfortable now. If he gets in I'll have to start putting even more money away for my daughter and buying more life insurance. We'll have to leave our kids enough to help with paying med bills etc. because a voucher medicare system will not be enough to cover them. I don't want my daughter to have a hard, lifeless old age.
