(25,415 posts)Don't think much of Christie politically but he is handling his job well in regards to the storm. It actually makes W. look terrible by comparison. Brownie and W couldn't get their heads around New Orleans. Obama is right there, on top of the situation. He has told the Govs they all can call him personally: Malloy, Christie, Cuomo, Markell, O' Malley and McDonnell.
Malloy and Christie have really praised Obama a lot. I have high marks for how my Gov, Gov. Malloy is handling this as well.

(25,415 posts)Honestly, it comes with having to do unpopular things to get the budget under control. Jodi Rell put it off onto the next Governor but because she did not have to do anything unpopular her approval was high. People don't usually want to have to bite the bullet and face reality. He stepped up and did it without worrying about it affecting his approval.
I think he has done an incredible job during this storm. Gave dire warnings to those in harm's way along the shore and he was correct.
Hope you are doing okay where you are.
I am lucky in Terryville (which is part of Plymouth). Just some trees and a few downed power lines. Part of my wood fence fell. No power lost though. I looked at the outage maps for CL&P and United Illuminating. Really bad in most of the state. Plymouth was just 9% out earlier today. My brother is in Lyme. No power and lots of trees down but no flooding or anything. My Mom is in Cheshire and was okay. Lost power temporarily. Heard the terrible story of the boys dying from the tree falling on their house. It was just across the border in NY state. I think a fireman died here. I guess it could have been worse but was bad enough.

(63,912 posts)terrible racism and a blot on our state. So they hate Malloy by extension, I think. I've seen enough of it since I moved here in 1985 to smell the racism and resentment of Yale here in this area, esp. of course in East Haven.

(25,415 posts)I grew up in Cheshire. We had very few black families but they were accepted here for the most part. Though I did have a black friend visit me from Central CT State University in the late 90's and he got some stares. He was from Bridgeport, son of a pastor. I made a lot of friends at college that were not white. They readily accepted me, a rich white girl from a wealthy town. Luckily, most of CT is not that bad racially. At least, not that I have come in contact with.

(885 posts)Seems Christie realizes it's his job to put the people over his party. Kudos to him. Don't like the man, but he's doing his job and realizes the POTUS is doing his as well.
