Why would anyone vote for Romney? I just don't get it.

Except that some people must either a) hate having a black man in the white house SOOO MUCH, or b) some people are so greedy that even a %15 tax rate is begrudged, or both.

I guess that honesty, respect, consistency just don't count for anything anymore. I know that Romney has lied since forever, but really! This last lie about Jeep going to China and refusing to back down, even after today's total denial by Chrysler, is so outrageously, brazenly corrupt and disrespectful to us citizens. Then throw on top of this lie, Romney's refusal to comment about what he would do with FEMA. This goes beyond the pale. Why in the world would any decent, honest citizen vote for this man? I just don't get it.

The Republican facebook friends who dare to speak to me about this either have no idea about the lies or dismiss factchecking organizations as liberal. So they say those calling Romney a liar are lying. Or they simply say that all politicians lie and that Romney's lying is acceptable as long as he cuts taxes, does away with Obamacare, puts the hurt on food stamp recipients and tells off our enemies.

I have a very intelligent libertarian friend (who, btw, won't vote for Romney), but who nevertheless falls for a lot of rightwing propaganda. When lies are repeated over and over as truth a certain percentage of people will believe them despite countervailing evidence, if they fit in with the metanarrative to which they already subscribe.

Couple that confusion over the facts with racism and you have a close race.

They might think he looks "presidential".
They believe right wing media.
They don't know he's lying.

Combine that with those that were already going to vote for him and don't care about his ethics.

Closet racists? Anybody but the black guy? And, based on my limited knowledge of Mormon's and LDS, how any religious fundie could vote for him. Google what Rosanne Barr has to say about growing up Jewish in Utah. I just don't get it.

I keep wondering the same thing. I keep coming back to the conclusion that the people I know - my peers (you know, non-rich folks) - who are planning to vote for Romney do not do any research themselves on the candidates and their positions. They seem to watch the same news shows and read the same papers every day - if they do so at all. Unless and until they go onto the Web and look at everything, they cannot be properly informed. Thus, these people are not properly informed and will vote against their well being. Sad, isn't it?

Even locally here in Seattle, there's so much fraud that McCain got 20% or more of the votes in certain neighborhoods. With the delays that King County (Seattle area) has had in getting ballots out, expect Romney to get an even higher percentage of the vote. I haven't received my ballot yet and neither have any of my friends. I work in a much more conservative area, and everyone I've talked to there has been allowed to vote.

Need I say more?

And I don't mean racism in terms of despising black people. I'm also talking about the kind of racism that holds that white men belongs in the White House unless there's some kind of Magical Negro on deck. Well, some people probably believed that Obama was indeed that Magical Negro back in 2008, and thus, they were wiling to give him a shot.

Then bam, 4 years passes, and while Obama's been a good (maybe great) president, he still hasn't solved racism and cured world hunger and grown a surplus in just one term. Thus, the White House must revert to its natural state of belonging to white men.

That's racism too, and it's rife throughout the country.

Why would anybody root for the Cubbies?

People get invested in their positions.

Nobody likes Romney, but lots of people strongly consider themselves Republicans.

When you buy a Microsoft product, are you buying Steve Ballmer?

How did Bush get half the vote? (Even though he stole the election).

You could put a member of the KKK on the Republican ticket and millions of people will still vote for it. It's just the reality of the system we live in.

McCain & Palin still managed to get 46% of the vote in 2008 despite the fact that there had been 8 years of Bush, a collapsing economy and a choice for V.P. who wasn't qualified to be President.

things will get better under Obama? They see that the bankers and the 1% are still doing mighty well, mighty well, but there's nothing obvious getting done to help their own spiral down the drain?

We now have record numbers of homeless and hungry Americans, and hundreds of millions of others have seen their lot in life plummet.

When people feel hopeless, they'll often try anything in the hope that it might work - even stupid stuff like drinking seawater when dying of thirst, or voting for Romney in the middle of a depression.
