Tx4obama, you are indeed a valuable asset to this board, both with you incredible knowledge, as well as you tenacity in the research in all of the events that are of interest to us.

(53,661 posts)I'm not concerned about his weight. That is something that comes and goes on person. At any rate, he might start looking to eating more good food like Michelle and the cooks have been dishing out from the White House garden.
I know she says that Barack doesn't always eat as healthy as she wants him to do being on the road all the time, but he's really doing a great job keeping in shape with his exhausting schedule. Haven't seen much of her on the campaign trail lately though. I hope all is well with the girls, school and all the duties she does. It's a nice picture, in any case.

(51,563 posts)Next to Christmas, no other holiday is more important to kids. Most schools (like my son's) had Halloween events this morning. I spend this morning helping my son put the finishing touches on his rock star costume for his elementary school's Halloween parade. Then tonight, the all important trick or treating expedition.

(28,158 posts)However, Romney only had a bus of canned goods to offer as a reason. Not nearly enough when you've got death, homelessness and widespread infrastructure devastation to deal with.
Christie knew he needed a real leader, a person able and willing to assist all the people, and address all the problems. Romney just couldn't be that man.

(17 posts)I doubt he gives a rat's ass. It's time for moderate republicans like Mr. Christie, Colin Powell & Kristine Todd-Whitman to take their party back so we can have two reasonable parties instead of a moderate democratic party and a psycho run conservative party.

(20,176 posts)I was living in Yonkers and commuting across the river to work to defeat him, going to his campaign events to do research and catch sound-bites.
This picture is a year old and his weight could be higher or lower now but this pic probably reflects a 35-50# loss over where he was when he ran. They said he was over 300# but I'd have guessed closer to 400# than 300#.

(5,611 posts)I think Christie strongly suspects that our president will be reelected -- and he's thinking ahead to a 2016 run. His speech at the convention was all about Christie and almost no Romney. He's "getting into shape" so to speak. Of course our president does tend to make everyone around him look better, the Obama effect!

(70,510 posts)He has millions of people that are hurting and suffering in his state right now
and he has said a # of times that he doesn't give a damn about politics and
wants to help his people. This might very well help Christie in the long run
and might be a break out in trying to work together instead of unending gridlock
pushed by the repugs in order to hurt the POTUS.
TeamPooka
(24,228 posts)the reason Romney is losing is because he faked it to everybody.
He pandered to his base too long because of how insecure he was about their support.
People like authenticity and whether you like him or not Christie is authentic.
he's an ass but he's real about it.
That's why he's dangerous.
he appeals to the middle I think as a tough talker like a Teddy Roosevelt type but "look he can work with the other side." type of guy.
We better start doing oppo research now for 2016 against him.
UrbScotty
(23,980 posts)I agree that he would be formidable in a general election, but this will not help him get the nomination of a party that is so against anything even remotely pro-Obama.

(48,955 posts)In these times partisan politics *have* to disappear.
Nothing in Romney's political history (as candidate, as governor, or as candidate again) demonstrates that he has this level of seriousness. The stories of his responses to emergencies as governor do not suggest seriousness (if the fed. gov will pay - lets get all hands out to pay... if the state pays - er... let it flood! At the same time as a federal candidate... the states should pay with no flow of fed. money to assist (because those fed. moneys should be cut - per Romney Ryan.)
Juxtapose this with the images of Romney ignoring questions about his intent toward FEMA (which he has said is an expendable expense .. ala "get rid of it... not a government responsibility" or worse "immoral" to spend fed dollars on FEMA, or FEMA like efforts.) and he looks very small in comparison to Obama.

(43 posts)But didn't Christie lose alot of weight a few years back on some example to the state's citizens and gained it back and more? Or do I have him confused with another politician that positively remade himself at one point and then gained it back.
