As our editorial noted this morning, Mr. Romney wants to end centralized emergency relief and let states handle the load themselves, though few states can do so without federal assistance. In any event, storms, as we have seen time and time again, cross state lines. (Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey, whose state may have been the hardest hit by the storm, was effusive in thanking President Obama for assistance today, drawing criticism from Republicans who are more interested in politics than recovery.)

Mr. Romney’s rash promise to put a hard ceiling on discretionary spending – which includes emergency response – would mean far less money for the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The House budgets developed by his running mate, Paul Ryan, would cut this kind of spending even further, an idea that Mr. Romney considers “excellent

Once again Mr. Romney demonstrates just how out of touch he is. As a survivor of two fairly recent hurricanes - Rita in 2005 and Ike in 2008 - I can assure you, those who need the help the most are not likely to have the means of heating those cans of soup, unless they were lucky enough to already own a camp stove.

It is appalling that someone running for the President of the United States has such little knowledge of the effects of such disasters.
Those dreaded federal programs and employees will be providing essential goods such as water and MREs (which come with their own heating source and come in a tidy little packet that does not require a can opener), as well as steering people through the process to receive financial assistance to help them restore their lives.

It is disgusting that he is such an opportunist that he would attempt to take advantage of millions of peoples' suffering for political points.

Romney Sucks...

I hope America repudiates his vision and votes to move forward into the 21st Century.
