2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHillary Clinton’s top five vice presidential picks
Hillary Clinton is nearing the end of a long Democratic primary that will almost certainly leave her as the partys presidential nominee.
It has also revealed weaknesses that Clinton will need to fix in order to defeat presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump in the fall.
Picking the right vice presidential candidate will be a key decision for Clinton as she looks to strengthen her campaign for the fall.
Here are the candidates getting the most buzz in Clintonworld.
Sen. Tim Kaine (Va.)
Sen. Sherrod Brown (Ohio)
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.)
Labor Secretary Thomas E. Perez
Gov. John Hickenlooper (Co.)

I do. He's exactly the same age as my son. 17.
I never thought it was horrible to teach kids to be kind.

(458 posts)I'm more interested in who Bernie would pick anyway.
I would be shocked if Hillary doesn't pick some boring, total establishment, Third Way GOP-lite type for her VP anyway.

3. She won't do it.
4. Rivals No. 1
5. Still won't bring in Colorado

(45,120 posts)Made for each other. yes I am serious, our Governer Frackinlooper drank Halliburtons fracking fluid to prove to us silly citizens that it is safe and make us understand that we don't need to know what's in that fluid because if they have to tell us they might get mad and stop fracking in our state, and we don't want that. After all Halliburton has our best interests at heart.

(47,201 posts)I am most familiar with the first 3. If I were trying to maximize the chance for a win I would probably pick either Kaine or Brown. But I can see arguments being made for all of them. I have only seen Perez once and he is smart as a whip and telegenic too.
No... "your."
Brown sorta represents me until his wife made him kiss Hillary's ass.
Other than that, the rest are pieces of shit.

We won't risk losing a Senate seat due to an appointment.

In 36 states the governor appoints, There are a few restrictions in a few states, such as 4 having to appoint from the same party as the outgoing senator; but, of course, finding a strong conservative registered as a Democrat should not be a problem for most conservative governors.
The other 14 require special elections, but in 9 states the governor can make an interim appointment, with some having restrictions on it. No doubt lots of room for red-state problems here too.

(58,785 posts)Brown's replacement for the remaining 2 years of his term, no restrictions. Not going to happen. Well, that's not Hillary's list, anyway, just someone's who's got to submit some lines.
FILLING VACANCIES IN THE OFFICE OF UNITED STATES SENATOR
Vacancies Filled by Gubernatorial Appointment
In the following 36 states, the governor makes an appointment to fill a U.S. Senate vacancy, and the appointee serves until the next regularly-scheduled, statewide general election. The person elected at that next regularly-held general election serves for the remainder of the unexpired term, if any. If the term was set to expire at that general election, the person elected serves a full six-year term.

(1) The governor's appointee must be of the same political party as that of the vacating Senator.
(2) If the vacancy occurs before a specified date preceding the regular primary (HI: 60 days; MN: 6 weeks; NJ: 30 days; NY: 59 days; VA: 12 days), the election is held in the following November; if the vacancy occurs within the specified period preceding the regular primary, the vacancy election is held at the second November election after the vacancy occurs.
(3) The governor makes an appointment by selecting from a list of three prospective appointees submitted by the party.
