2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWhy are some people here seemingly happy that Trump "punked" Bernie?
It appears that a few people on this site are laughing along with Donald about the "joke" debate. I thought no "Trump-humping" was allowed? I don't like it when either side does the GOP's work for them.

And these days, tweeting pretty much is a form of going on air.

(30,613 posts)He is terrified of Bernie. That's why Trump is being so gentle to Hillary until June 8th.
After that, the airwaves will be full-time Wall Street speech videos, wikileaked Hillary emails, etc.

(587 posts)Trump has been getting hammered in the media for months and he's shown he doesn't care at all what they say about him.
Did you watch any of the GOP debates? He has no problem being insulting, rude and combative. There's literally nothing Bernie could say that hasn't been said about Trump before, and Bernie isn't exactly a good debater to start with.
Nobody who is considering voting for Trump cares if he doesn't debate Bernie. The only people who care are Berniebros who would love the legitimacy that a debate against the GOP nominee would bring.
Trump has all the cards. He punked Bernie and made him dance.
The real show comes in a few months when Clinton debates Trump.

GreatGazoo
(3,937 posts)She backed out so Trump said he would debate. It frames her poorly.
Bernie jumps on it then Trump's people step in and say Trump can't debate Sanders.
Exactly!
lagomorph777
(30,613 posts)A Trump-Sanders debate would damage both Trump and Clinton (by her absence/irrelevance). Trump wants to face Hillary in the GE, not Bernie.

(744 posts)I think all of what is going on here is obvious. You have a Hillary-supporting site admin keeping the fires of rage fueled at at the highest notch on the dial for weeks and weeks, long after such vitriol will have any actual effect on the election. All of this fighting must generate incredible ad views. I will say, it is a bit cruel of a Hillary supporter to do that to so many Bernie fans because it's only going to result in a far greater emotional crash when they finally accept that he's not going to be the nominee.

(68,556 posts)I despise Bernie because he has hurt our GE chances and endangered my three daughters...and will end the progressive movement should he help elect Trump with a minimum of five court picks...Bernie is the anti-Roosevelt. So anytime something less than great happens in his or to his campaign...I am pleased.
Turin_C3PO
(13,975 posts)I personally see him as a positive force for progressivism, as long as he doesn't fuck up the convention. He needs to concede and endorse Hillary by June 8th, latest June 14th. I trust he'll do that. If not, I'll agree with your position on him.

(2,074 posts)Trump is an asshole.
Bernie should have said no, since it is bad form for him as runner-up to debate the GOP nominee, but still, he is one of ours. So I will never, ever take Trump's side against him. Even though a lot of Bernie supporters seem to like taking Trump's side against Hillary.
