(1,446 posts)Luckily, I am able to attend college without worrying about having to work, so volunteering for campaigns is my summer activity. I have found the best way to persuade voters is to show them videos of the riots at the NV convention, plus the audio of the threatening calls made to the NV DNC chairwoman. Thanks for the help Sanders people!

(2,565 posts)The problem (and this is the mistake Obama made with Obamacare) is he STARTED from the compromise and then got pushed even further back.
Clinton isn't even willing to go THAT far. She has promised no real advances, but just to keep building on the same flawed system. She wants to "use the tools of Dodd Frank" when in reality Dodd Frank is far too weak to be useful, by the time you are "using the tools" it is already too late.
We are going to "build on Obamacare", but Obamacare is a mess creating a two tiered health care system (much like the immigration reform would have done for workers). We shouldn't just tear Obamacare up, b/c it is better than nothing, but we need to keep it in place while we work on REAL reform.
Clinton has no discernible goals.

(2,565 posts)Maybe California could pull it off.. MAYBE... but the problem with a single state trying single payer is that you can't control costs unless you control the vast majority of the customers. Why would a pharmaceutical company give lower rates to a single state when it can charge its gouge prices to 95% of the population?
The fun comes when you have a single negotiator for the entire US population. NOW you can dictate how much a company can get paid for a service.
Single payer will only work on a MASS scale.

(10,721 posts)Speaking to the millions of people in that massive state is important regardless of whether or not it's solidly 'blue'. Same goes for New York. Just as Republican candidates spend time and money in Texas.

You seriously think a candidate, regardless of party, isn't going to spend time and money in the most populous state in the US?!? Seriously?!?
DefenseLawyer
(11,101 posts)Your handy CNN graph (which was linked to the Wikipedia page you obviously referenced) shows total spending from January 2007 to November 2008. If you had bothered to look you would see that there were actually no ads at all after the primary. Feel free to head back to Wikipedia and try again.

(3,649 posts)Plus CA is a safely blue state in GE's. Why spend millions advertising there when that money can be used in swing states where it will likely have more of an impact on the outcome of the election. No, the message of the ad may seem like it's for a general election, but it's clearly aimed at helping Hillary in the primary.
hootinholler
(26,449 posts)She was that far ahead even back then that she only produced GE ads, or something.

Solidly blue or not, the candidates are going to campaign in California and New York and Washington and Oregon and so on. As well as Texas and Georgia and South Carolina and so on.

(2,565 posts)I haven't seen a presidential general election ad in California in the 20+ years i have lived here. Not one.
In fact, it has been a joke told at fundraisers. They are taking our money, but we don't even get to see the fruits.
Obama did spend over 5 million California, but that was in the PRIMARY.. not the general election.
McCain spent 50K (again, for the primary).
Now in 2012.... Obama spent nothing in California.

So.. no, democrats don't spend money in California for general elections.

(37,748 posts)No doubt, you'll provide us with the precise amount the campaigns should spend in CA and a measure of how those figures were arrived at, yes?
Or are question marks and cowered implications the most effective tool you have to communicate with?

(2,565 posts)So 0 seems like the correct number for a democrat to spend in California for the GENERAL ELECTION.

But we don't want to talk about those things. It was Bill who helped Hillary move up, and without him, she would not be where she is today.
But we all know most people don't know her history and won't bother to look it up to verify things said in ads.

(8,175 posts)because she is a woman.
But...I will address the rest of your post, even if there is no point in addressing that absurdity.
She didn't try to pass the bar exam again. She just ran to a safe haven. And yes, it was because she was married to a governor, and then a President that she became well known enough to be where she is today. Not because she was his 'wife'...she could have been the husband and his wife could have been the governor and the president...it was because her 'spouse' was someone important and famous that she is where she is today. If their sexes were reversed, and she were the governor and the president and I said that about Bill, would that have been sexist? Yeah...I thought so.
Everyone knows Bill is a better politician than Hillary. She even admits that herself. He has something she does not have, and that's a way of connecting with people (not all people...he sure never connected with me).
Now, go back to your safe group and talk about how sexist we Bernie women are. Yeah...I'm a woman. I am not a sexist and I don't say sexist things about other women...sometimes being a woman is just the truth of a situation.
LoverOfLiberty
(1,438 posts)Who are you to ascribe motives? Who are you to say she is only where she is at today because of her husband? What makes you think Bill is better than Hillary and what does it matter anyway?
Just because you are a woman doesn't mean you cannot be sexist.
Safe space....geez. Grow up.
passiveporcupine
(8,175 posts)I think maybe it's all the Hill supporters who are having a fit every time someone says they don't like Hillary, or they don't think she is presidential.
We have a right to our opinion, just as you do to think our "rights" are bunk.
Let me give you a hint about things being sexist. If you switch the sexes in a statement that someone says is sexist, and it then is no longer considered sexist...it was sexist to say it was sexist in the first place, just because it was about a woman.

basselope
(2,565 posts)Brother Buzz
(36,481 posts)basselope
(2,565 posts)Since Jeopardy is a syndicated show you don't "buy time during Jeopardy" the way you would "Big Bang Theory" or a regular network show.
You just buy into a market at the general rate and your ads are distributed accordingly.
It's all based on CPM and what your budget is. If you set a higher budget for your ads, you are more likely to show up on higher rated programs.
They don't offer "discounts" on vacated spots. Sometimes, if they don't have enough ads at the general going rate to fill spots at a particular CPM, they will drop down to people who bought into a lower bracket, but that doesn't often happen in California markets.
Its very structured and simple. You can call whatever market you are interested in and ask for a rate sheet.
Brother Buzz
(36,481 posts)I thought it was noteworthy.
basselope
(2,565 posts)Not really noteworthy, just shows that she is scared of the California market and felt the need to pour LOTS of money in.

You seem to be confusing past and future..

(546 posts)Last Tuesday, May 24 in Washington state over 785,000 people voted in the Democratic Primary.
Hillary Clinton got 52.4% of the vote and Bernie Sanders got 47.6%.
http://results.vote.wa.gov/results/current/President-Democratic-Party.html
Now I will readily admit to not being able to know the outcome of future elections. But I will put 785,000 actual voters from a week ago up against any public opinion polling sample of between 800 and 1500 people.
There are nine primaries or caucuses remaining, let's see how this all plays out in real time!

Hoover Institution Golden State Poll: Clinton +13 Over Sanders; Harris, Sanchez Lead Senate Field
Tuesday, May 31, 2016
Hoover Institution, Stanford University
STANFORD, CA: With Californias June 7 primary only a week away, a new Hoover Institution Golden State Poll finds Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump with large leads in their respective primaries but cautionary signs lay ahead and good news for Democratic U.S. Senate hopefuls Kamala Harris and Loretta Sanchez.
Hoovers Golden State Poll, administered by the survey research firm YouGov and designed in conjunction with Stanford Universitys Bill Lane Center for the American West, finds Clinton holding a 13-point lead over U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (51 percent to 38 percent).
