2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWhat is Bernie going to do between the time the voting ends and the convention begins?
There will be tons of pressure for him to support Hillary but will he listen?
Is he going to continue to say he has a path to the nomination? That would only make him look like a fool.
Is he just talking out of his hat right now to get as many votes as he can in CA?
How many Sanders supporters believe him and how many realize it is over?
On Tuesday the media will call Hillary the presumptive nominee as Bernie says they will. But if he insists she hasn't won and that he can fight her nomination at the convention he risks looking as an outsider and not a Democrat. If he thinks he can give a campaign speech instead of a call for unity at the convention I think the party will disown him.
Sure many of his followers will not vote in the general. Most likely they wouldn't have anyway if Bernie hadn't run.
The reason Bernie lost is this: You can't manufacture reality. You can't bully your way to a win. You can't make up one sided polls on the internet and expect that you are measuring what is going on in the real world. You can't say every time you didn't win it was because the election was stolen.
Bernie is continuing to tell his supporters that they can invent a win when that is the furthest thing from the truth.
He is just plain being dishonest.

(13,417 posts)1. He will concede.
2. He will return to Congress.
Beyond that, there are no guarantees what he will do.

(1,128 posts)That's when the primaries are finished and his campaign has it extended deadline to report May fundraising and expenses. I think at this point the campaigns internal focus is to try and win California so that they're in a stronger position to make demands of the DNC and the Clinton campaign. If, Sanders chooses to continue past the 15th, I don't see his senior campaign staff sticking around. They want to be viable in the future and probably won't want to burn bridges.

(646 posts)After Hillary becomes the presumptive nominee on Tuesday night. Hillary, the media and the nation are going to shift focus to the general. Seriously, what will Bernie do for the next month and half?

(45,851 posts)I suspect Sanders has sources feeding him inside info, he's been around a long time and knows the levers of power in DC.

(42,698 posts)The insiders don't feed him information. They have no incentive to do so when he's out there attacking them.

Sanders has cultivated the little people in Washington over the years.

It's really not that mysterious.

(10,437 posts)after tuesday, he will just be a novelty...the guy who lost and has turned into a sore loser.....America hates sore losers and bernie better be careful....
can he impact the general election sure...if he wants trump to win, bernie could do what he can to make the general election lot closer her hillary
I am hoping for a shred of decency in bernie but I won't hold my breath. I nailed him that he is what he is turning out to be from the beginning...an angry old socialist who could derive pleasure from destroying the democratic party and sticking america with trump to teach us all a lesson

(46,179 posts)where the idea that his supporters won't vote in the GE is coming from. As a Sanders supporter, it's nothing I'm hearing from them. I only hear it from Clinton supporters, which makes it more than a bit suspect.
As for the rest? I know it's really frustrating when a large segment of the voting population doesn't get in line, adopt conventional establishment politics wisdom, and give up the fight. Condescension, patronizing, and other forms of verbal bullying really feed the situation, rather than resolving it, which is even more frustrating.
Get used to it.

(46,179 posts)I'm paying attention to races that make my goal possible. My goal is to elect as many people who are not neo-liberals as possible.
I really won't be invested in races that don't offer a chance to achieve that goal. That's reality.
I certainly don't want President Trump, but neither do I want a government of neo-liberals. Who sits in the WH is not the only priority. In my view.

(7,321 posts)The question isn't what will Bernie do, the question is what will WE do?
The question is what will Bernie Supporters and the Political REVOLUTION do.. but it's a question that is being answered now and continue to be answered as time goes on, with increased political awareness and activism (which has blossomed and continues to blossom) manifesting itself in the political arena across the nation.
Just have to open your eyes and ears for that answer.
