2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBernie supporters will use this to delegitimize all Hillary's victories tomorrow
Here we go again. All throughout the primary season, every time Hillary was won, Bernie supporters have found a reason or a conspiracy to use to delegitimize Hillary's wins. RIGGED VOTES! IRREGULARITIES! CLOSED PRIMARIES! NOT ENOUGH POLLING STATIONS! These topics never come up when Bernie wins a state, but Bernie supporters refuse to concede that Hillary -- a powerful woman -- could possibly best their guy in her own merit.
So they've already got their narrative ready for tomorrow: If Bernie wins California, it will be proof that he should be the nominee. If he loses, it won't be because more people wanted Hillary. Nope. It will be because Hillary and the media conspired to dampen turnout and keep Bernie voters from going to the polls.
This is so damn predictable. No matter what Hillary does or how much she wins by, some on the left will never accept that a "shrill" woman could beat their wise Gandalf/Dumbledore come to life.

(11,605 posts)I think Bernie will likely win more of the primaries tomorrow and some Hillary supporters (probably not the campaign itself) or the media on its own wanted to minimize it by declaring the election over before people vote.

(9,385 posts)and then there would be no complaints. Fact is, her thumb is always on the scales and nobody has to like that or put up with it. It's unacceptable.
But I understand that Bernie is planning to raise all of this during the Convention process, and I'm glad he is. If he needs to file legal actions, he should do so and I hope he will.
Hillary is not the poor little victim when she cheats others. She does not have any respect for rules or laws, this we know. Ethics is a joke to her.

(42,700 posts)I ask that question in all seriousness.
Did you expect Sanders to win enough delegates to prevent her from getting a majority of pledged delegates?
If so, then there is no reason for last night's announcement to deter any Sanders' supporter from voting since the bar for getting that many pledged delegates is the same.
If not, did you expect the media not to report that Clinton had gotten enough pledged delegates plus SD commitments to be the presumptive nominee? Everyone and their brother has been expecting that announcement would come tomorrow, so what did it matter that the announcement came 24 hours earlier if you weren't expecting/hoping for a game changing, out-of-the-blue series of lopsided wins that would prevent Clinton from claiming the 211 or so pledged delegates she needed for a majority of pledged delegates.
Sanders has all but saying his route to the nomination is by convincing supers that he is the most electable candidate, notwithstanding the pledged delegate vote. So again, either California didn't matter anyway, or it matters just as much today as it did yesterday.
I see a lot of gnashing of teeth about last night's announcement, but not a lot of explanation of why and how it matters in either the short run or the long run.

(14,255 posts)there's that.
Who would have thought the Democratic Party would proudly stand for war and fracking and the TPP and cluster bombs and crushing college debt and increased H-1B visas and bloody interventionism and even less regulation of Wall Street and NO to single payer and YES to the Third Way slashing of social programs? Hating those things has fuck all to do with any "powerful woman" bullshit. It is what that power is used for that is important.
Oh, and, really, why the fuck would you care what Bernie's supporters think or say? Did you really think we were all going to unquestioningly line up and ignore the issues? Dream on.

(2,125 posts)Can't wait another day? When a legitimate candidate calls for all states to be heard, and on the eve of the biggest state's (in population) voting, don't YOU think it is more than a little suspicious that the election was already called? Mind you, even if the situation were reversed I would be outraged.
