This will be my last rant on Bernie Sanders, then I am moving to the general election and Donald Trump:
but for those of us who value equality,
care about the historic nature of what just happened,
that it took over two centuries,
240 years,
for our country to elect a woman as the nominee of a major political party,
and we're not supposed to celebrate because Bernie and Jane don't like it.
Bernie came to run in our party,
and yes, there are rules in place,
and yes, he lost fair and square,
and by each and every measure.
The "establishment" he's been trashing for a year -
and now his plan is to ask for their support over Hillary -
did NOT
I repeat, did NOT, decide the nominee.
we did!
we, the voters.
3,000,000 more voters picked Hillary
300 more pledged delegates went for Hillary
and the Sanders campaign is whining and complaining til the bitter end, on air, in a statement and so on.
you lost Bernie.
for once - one iota of a second - get beyond you and you and you and you and you,
and realize you ran as a guest of the Democratic Party,
a party that values equality,
a party that nominated the first black president,
and now has nominate the first woman president.
and you sound insane, a sore loser, a scorched earth, negative legacy of what started out as a campaign of ideas.
you can't let it go for one night,
to be quiet and say nothing,
and let us take it and celebrate this herstoric moment?
for every white man who lost out to a woman,
here's to you, Bernie Sanders!!!!

(85,996 posts)...white men have dominated this presidential election process since the first establishment of the office (right up until the election of our nation's first black president).
A decade or so from now, this might seem unusual to highlight, but right now there's a lot of exclusive history to overcome. I think the race and gender of our candidates not only bears mentioning, the moment demands recognition.

(1,151 posts)ACTUALLY not a big deal because we would have already been doing it for a few decades. Though my real hope is to live long enough to see, say, a trans woman of color become President.

(58,724 posts)I am just trying to get a sense of why race was brought into the discussion when both of the candidates in question are of the same race.

Because mega-rich old white ladies are the oppressed people of the world.

I am waiting for the AP to announce the winner of the NBA final - why wait for all the games to be played?

(7,299 posts)2008. The investment of time, energy and passion over the course of a year makes it difficult to come to terms. I believe that Senator Sanders, his campaign and his supporters should be allowed the space to breathe. Sometimes it's just as important how one handles success as it is when one fails to attain a successful conclusion.

(43,867 posts)All that's left is the eye rolling at that small contingent of Bernie supporters who advance wild conspiracy theories and who can't grasp the math and the fact there are people who disagree with them.

(37,428 posts)He's pledged to keep it up until the convention, when I think we'll find that things are mostly okay.
...he's forecasted a 'contested' convention.
The candidate with less votes and delegates is predicting a contested convention. His grounds? Polls he says prove he'll be more competitive against the republican nominee then Hillary.
What we're going to find is a mostly settled convention and a whole heap of discontented fans looking for a fight that was never actually on the table.
Orsino
(37,428 posts)Contested just means there will be a vote, and that Sanders' campaign will be alive until that moment.
We know which way that vote is likely to go.

(2 posts)And what a historic moment it will be! Very very exciting. What I appreciate the most is that we have a win-win situation. Hillary wins the nomination including popular vote and delegate count, eventually leading to what has been far too long; a female president!! The progressive movement wins as Bernie continues toward a contested convention, which will ultimately lead to a systematic change in the primary process, moving us to a much more democratic process than the one we now have. Arguably, in the end, the progressive movement itself will pave the way for greater involvement of all people in our political process. The only concern I have is as follows; this constant attack by Hillary supporters against Bernie Sanders in the progressive movement may exclude these individuals from the process and lead to a Trump disaster for our county. I encourage you and others to welcome progressives else there may be concerns on the horizon. And of course....Go Hillary!
bigtree
(85,996 posts)...to actually step forward and embrace our Democratic coalition and our nominee - the folks Bernie is still actively and stridently advocating against.
He and his supporters are more than welcome to that.
