2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI feel like we have now officially entered the twilight zone.
Upon reading these twitters one young voter said to me - it's like the words are meaningless. I just shrugged because on what basis could I even raise an argument... Does she not get the HUGE disconnect between her words and her actions? As a woman this has been one hell of a disheartening election cycle.

Its time to take our gov back from special interests & put it where it belongs: in the hands of #WethePeople.
Elizabeth Warren @SenWarren 9h9 hours ago
Government should be accountable to the people, not Wall Street lobbyists, deep-pocketed donors, and secretive Super PACs.

You do know that some people actually believe in the concept of public service?
Clinton is one. Warren is another.
Why is this so hard to acknowledge?

If she serves as VP, it will be because, like Hillary, she believes in doing all the good you can. By all the means you can. In all the ways you can. In all the places you can. At all the times you can. To all the people you can. As long as ever you can.
John Wesley.
She has the maturity of later middle age, the wisdom of several years in public life, and the temperament of someone who will be a great asset to Clinton's administration, no matter what role she plays.
Not everyone gives a shit about sitting on a pile of money. So "Oh, come on" -- altruism IS a motivator for many of us. I'm sorry if you can't see that.

(27,814 posts)... over the past year, it is somehow easier for Bernie supporters to believe that every individual who supports Hillary has sold out, been threatened, or has been bought-and-paid-for, than to even consider that the RW version of HRC has no basis in reality.
I wonder why it doesn't occur to them that maybe they're wrong and people like Liz Warren, Al Franken, Howard Dean, John Lewis, Gabby Giffords, Rachel Maddow, Joe Biden and Obama have had it right all along.

(135,425 posts)speeches. THOUSANDS. If there were anything "good" in 'em we'd know by now.
But keep beating that drum of false equivalence, if you must. It doesn't bother the presumptive nominee in the slightest. You know--the one who has released DECADES of tax returns!
You don't win elections if you don't release your tax returns. That could be why Sanders lost -- because he didn't tell the truth about releasing them. He even had his wife get up and say she'd do it, and then NOT do it.
Sanders had better think long and hard about that--it'll be an issue if he runs again for his seat in 2018 (and he will be primaried, count on it--and likely challenged from the right, too). VT is like a small town, and Bernie, thanks to this run, is "target rich." His opponents will have it easy--a lot of the oppo research is out there on the web, waiting to be plucked and used.

(1,000 posts)determining if a person is saying one thing to one group and something entirely different thing to another.
If Hillary had nothing to hide about her "pitch" to Wall Street she could easily end the discussion. If she is so very proud of trying to reign in wall street excesses she could easily do that. But no, all I have ever heard her say about what she says to wall street is the time she told them bravely to "cut it out" - well that had absolutely no effect at all as the financial collapse came shortly after she got so tough with her buddies ! HA!
so If you want to focus on tax returns go ahead. I prefer to focus on the details of her relationships with those in power who can bring us to our knees again.
MADem
(135,425 posts)that 200K golden parachute ended up. You know, the money Jane got for leaving the school she ran into the ground with her fiscal mismanagement and poor decision making (and she is, and has always been, a "key player" on Sanders' staff--it really is a "two fer" situation with them).
Many people believe that cash is offshore somewhere, or earning money in a Goldman Sachs account -- somewhere that would make the "Do as I say" admonitions of the candidate look a bit hollow.
The fact that this remains a mystery is odd, indeed. Especially after they were PROMISED, months ago.
It really doesn't matter anymore, though--it won't come up again until 2018, when and if Sanders runs for re-election.
ciaobaby
(1,000 posts)"many people believe" Yeah - and many people believe the moon is made of cream cheese.
Lets go with what we know - Hillary Rodham Clinton and former president Bill Clinton earned in excess of $25 million for delivering 104 speeches since the beginning of 2014, a huge infusion to their net worth as she was readying for a presidential bid.
The fact remains - she has a very good reason for keeping her wall street speeches out of the public eye.
But that's ok - she is going to be real tough on wall street - she may tell them once more to "cut it out" !

(94,527 posts)Sen. Elizabeth Warren says she hopes Hillary Rodham Clinton runs for president in 2016 the latest in a series of declarations of support by the Massachusetts Democrat, who some have speculated could seek the Oval Office herself.
"All all of the women Democratic women I should say of the Senate urged Hillary Clinton to run, and I hope she does. Hillary is terrific," Warren said during an interview broadcast Sunday on ABC's "This Week," noting that she was one of several senators to sign a letter urging Clinton to run in 2016.

If you want a hint about what Elizabeth Warren actually thinks of Hillary, consider the fact that ALL Senate Democratic women except Elizabeth Warren endorsed Hillary many months ago. She stood out like a sore thumb for being the only one to not endorse Hillary. It was politically risky, an act of courage.
What happened today was a planned action for some end we might understand some day. Both speeches sounded canned.

She was a mediocre senator who made some very bad votes and she was a disaster as SOS both in her decisions and her secret email server, an embarrassment to Obama. Warren can't stand the big banks that just happen to be Hill's buddies and major backers. As for Franken, I just don't know but bear in mind that the Clintons exert massive political influence and many on Capitol Hill are afraid of them.

Warren lost me last summer, pretty much anyway. She acts brave against Trump, but she was too scared of harming her career to run against Hillary in the primary. Hence, why Bernie had to run. Gutless, when it comes to personal risk, just like some others I used to think had a spine.

(25,699 posts)It would be more than a little weird, at this point, for Warren to keep sitting on her endorsement. And it would be just as weird, after all the votes, to endorse the guy who's clearly not going to be the nominee.
What's she going to do? She's a Democrat, she's going to endorse the party's nominee. And I don't like it, you don't like it, i'll bet you a dollar Warren doesn't like it, but that nominee is going to be Clinton.
Warren's endorsement is expected, to the point of pretty much being mandatory at this point. So she gives it. If you think that's going to keep her from doing the things we love her for, well... I don't share that sentiment.
