2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumTesting Hillary supporters love for Bernie
Many Hillary supporters (can't remember the % but is significant) would have supported Bernie is he was the nominee. However, since it is likely that Hillary might be the nominee how would Hillary's supporters feel if she made him VP? Before Bernie and Hillary supporters scream no! Take a moment to think about what would happen and also what you would think the effect would be on the Democratic vote versus the Republican vote (and the Independents, Greens etc?

(6,409 posts)Bernie does not seem like a pick Hillary would make willingly. It would be too contrived.

(6,409 posts)If it's perceive as too weird by too many people, it would do little to unify the party.

(2,550 posts)The real states are Florida, Ohio and Virginia at play. Florida would benefit from a Spanish speaking running mate.
Bernie didn't have a ton of influence in those 3 states (some in Ohio). Hillary doesn't need support in much of the states Bernie was strong in because they're primarily blue already.
I'm assuming she chooses Castro to firm up Florida.

I think the VP slot wouldn't be that attractive to him, but as Labor Secretary he would have a lot of power and influence on worker issues.

(17,865 posts)Bernie is not a good pick. No President wants a VP who insists on being center stage. It doesn't work. Just ask John McCain.

(43,867 posts)Her supporters don't need to be tested for their "love of Bernie." Bernie is the loser.

(25,471 posts)aren't doesn't make any sense. The VP selection should be someone who will campaign tirelessly for Clinton and other Democrats and, secondarily, brings some demographic balance to the ticket.
There aren't enough Greens to matter. Jill Stein received 460k votes total in 2012.
Independents are mostly people who already lean right or left, but just don't bother with a party identification. The ones who are left-leaning will mostly go to Clinton.

I'm trying not to snark, but you broke me! I can't help myself! It's just so adorable . . . "might be"
