"I look forward in coming weeks to continued discussion between the two campaigns."

The two items that caught my attention from Sanders' speech last night:

"I look forward in coming weeks to continued discussion between the two campaigns"

and

"Defeating Donald Trump cannot be our only goal."

http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2016/06/bernie-sanders-speech-fight-convention-hillary-clinton

It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out. I know that as of Monday, DU isn't going to allow discussion of a Sanders "campaign," but discussion of Sanders will be allowed (see "Announcements" and "ATA&quot .

I also know the anger generated here by his reference to "the two campaigns."

I have no idea of what that's going to look like. I have no idea of how his current activities can be discussed, given his intention to go to the convention and the full content of his speech last night, without violating the new rules. I don't imagine that 100% of his supporters will go silent after the clock ticks past 11:59 PM on Sunday night.

There's been a lot of discussion about Republicans moving away from Trump and towards Clinton. And that is great in terms of Clinton getting votes and defeating Trump, but maybe not so great in terms of this paragraph (same link as above):

Noting that he had recently met with his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton, Sanders made clear that he would not drop out of the presidential race anytime soon. "I look forward in coming weeks to continued discussion between the two campaigns," he said, adding that he wanted to make certain that the Democratic Party passes the most progressive platform in its history and becomes "a party of working people and young people and not just wealthy campaign contributors."

I don't see Republicans signing up for any of that, and if they are drawn to the Clinton campaign, you can draw your own conclusions as to what that means in a larger sense of her as the Democratic candidate. For some, it's a clear sign that her campaign has universal appeal. Others don't see it that way. I don't think she's offering "the most progressive platform in history." It may be the platform we end up with from 2017-2020. What happens during, and after, that time is anyone's guess.

One campaign is either to defeat Trump, or crown her majesty, depending on one's perspective.

The other is to defeat neo-liberalism within the party and the nation. It's not a presidential campaign. It's longer, broader, deeper, and more important.

I would really like to see that the entitlement / "coronation" aspect isn't there. I'd be lying if I tried.

And there are some people who say that all that matters is defeating Trump. No, that does matter, but so do a lot of other things.

I have no idea what Sanders can actually accomplish moving forward, but he'll have my support as he does.
