"Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton got a raucous welcome from House Democrats on Wednesday during her first visit to Capitol Hill since effectively clinching the nomination.
The theme of the day was one word unity, unity and more unity, and she entered the meeting to chants of Hillary, Hillary!
We need to unify the country, Clinton said to applause.
Invited to address rank-and-file lawmakers by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Democratic Caucus Chairman Xavier Becerra of California, Clinton told Democrats that she will compete in all 50 states and coordinate as much as possible with Democratic congressional candidates and incumbents...
There were some light moments in the meeting, as well. When Becerra who has been mentioned as a possible vice presidential pick offered Clinton some water, Rep. Joe Crowley of New York joked, Man, youre really working it. The Democrats erupted in laughter.
Top Democrats played up their cohesion heading into the Wednesday session.
Youve got the next president of the United States, here. Its going to be all positive things, said Minority Whip Steny Hoyer of Maryland.
This will be about unity. It is time to come together, said Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.). And she will probably be reaching out to the Sanders wing. As I said the other day, it takes two wings to fly, and both sides of our party are an asset, not a problem.
I expect we will see here a fighting spirit now that she has the nomination, added Rep. Sandy Levin (D-Mich.)"

(58,805 posts)She's going to campaign full tilt and show up in all 50 states. That's partially why Nixon lost in 1960. But I did hear that she plans or her campaign organization to have a presence in all 50 to take advantage of any surge that lifts Democratic boats. The fact that Obama just handed over his list confirms it.

(2,900 posts)and I doubt that Clinton will actually stop in all 50 states, although that could probably be done in a few weeks if she really wanted to. Actually visiting each state isn't the brightest idea, but it isn't really all that harmful with a chartered jet and several weeks.
A 50 state strategy for Democrats means helping out a lot on all down ticket races. With the Republicans in disarray, this may get us the house. It really depends on whether and how Trump gets the nomination.

(35,699 posts)Nixon actually tried to physically visit all 50 states - which was a mistake in that era given the state of air travel. Today it would be a lot easier but probably not necessary given the ability to use video conferencing, etc.

(44,173 posts)Just to have a campaign presence of some sort in all 50 states.
As long as she can afford that (and it seems that she can), then it's a good move.

(700 posts)We know there are some states we aren't going to win, but if Hillary is elected (once she's elected!) she then becomes President of all the people - not just the swing states. Besides, I'm a firm believer if you don't talk to people you'll never change minds.

We need to educate and motivate citizens to see how what our Congress
does matters every day and every year
Up with the democratic party. We need restore sanity to politics and 2016 is our golden opportunity. If we can carry the momentum into 2018, progressive ideals will snowball in a big way.

One of the nice thing that Bernie did -- and perhaps Hillary would do as well -- is be willing to take on the ideas of the Republicans. I think Hillary would do well with that too!
Anyway, 50 states strategy! GREAT!!!!

Get democrats to the polls to elect as many democrats as possible.
