Bernie Sanders is warning Democrats to get serious about income inequality because the same beliefs that led to the outcome of the Brexit vote last week could benefit Republicans in November.
"The notion that Donald Trump could benefit from the same forces that gave the Leave proponents a majority in Britain should sound an alarm for the Democratic Party in the United States," the Vermont senator wrote in an op-ed published by The New York Times.
"Millions of American voters, like the Leave supporters, are understandably angry and frustrated by the economic forces that are destroying the middle class," added Sanders.
Democrats need to make it clear, Sanders said, that "we stand with those who are struggling and who have been left behind." He said throughout his presidential campaign, he encountered voters in 46 states who are struggling as a result of a globalized economy that favors the wealthy.
"Could this rejection of the current form of the global economy happen in the United States? You bet it could," he said.

(3,089 posts)That's what is wrong with American workers. More jobs have been lost to automation than to trade. And if we close out trade we will lose even more jobs. We just can't sell enough stuff to our own country.

recent poll: http://www.cnn.com/2016/06/29/politics/quinnipiac-poll-hillary-clinton-donald-trump/index.html
538 gives them an A- http://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/pollster-ratings/
I've mentioned numerous times that historic unfavorables on both candidates are a cause for concern
you can't dismiss the facts

Brexit vote is a prime example of this situation, a lot of HRC supporters on this site are very dismissive of the polls showing how close the two candidates are... would be a very bad choice to continue to be so dismissive of the facts
