7. I think she's a paid whipping girl.

She's, in essence (pardon my french) the Duty Fuck Up. Anything goes wrong? She takes the fall! And she's paid for doing it, and eating it, in essence. She probably doesn't have much else to do, but she gets paid, for blame taking and keeping her mouth shut.

That's just my theory, mind you.

The Japanese used to do this sort of thing at military parties I used to attend, years ago--they'd assign some poor ensign or 2nd LT to get shitfaced and make a bit of an embarrassing display of himself, and then his peers would haul him away to sober up. The idea there was so that the drunken field grade and flag/general officers who were a bit in their cups would be less remembered for their trespasses if there was a drunken ensign trying to do a strip tease or sing MY WAY without knowing the words. His "performance" would take all the air out of the room!
