Manafort: NYT Misquoted Trump on NATO
Paul Manafort, Donald Trumps campaign chairman, claimed Thursday morning that the GOP presidential nominee was misquoted by The New York Times, in an article which called into question whether Trump believed the U.S. should automatically come to the aid of certain NATO states in the event of a Russian invasion. The Times story claimed Trump explicitly raised new questions about his commitment to automatically defend NATO allies if they are attacked, saying he would first look at their contributions to the alliance, and would only automatically give military aid to countries that had fulfilled their obligations to us, by paying their NATO dues. Manafort, Trumps campaign chairman, said Trump was misquoted and that the Times does this a lot. In response, the newspaper released a transcript of the interview, which appears to show that the reporting was, in fact, accurate.
