Forgive me if this has already been posted but it's pretty damn informative.
This poll tests the popularity of Julian Castro, Tim Kaine, Xavier Beccera, Amy Kloubuchar and Elizabeth Warren among all voters.
See the results for yourself.

(30,481 posts)That changes dramatically when one is picked for VP. I really don't get much more from those numbers.
Palin was even less heard of than the others on your list and she became a household name overnight.

Note to potential jurors: I previously reported this story on DU. It is a recitation of facts by a liberal news source in Texas and is not intended to bash either Castro or the White House.White House Won't Punish Julián Castro
U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julián Castro looks to be off the hook with the White House after the U.S. Office of Special Counsel found that Castro violated federal law.
At issue is the Hatch Act, a 1939 law that prohibits some of the political activities of federal employees, and a Katie Couric interview. In an April interview, Castro answered questions from the journalist of a political nature. The problem, according to the Office of Special Counsel, is that Castro gave the interview in his "official capacity" as a Cabinet member.
"I saw the statement from Secretary Castro, who acknowledged the inadvertent error," said White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest, when asked if a punishment was in store. "And he indicated that he would participate in some additional training and get an additional briefing to make sure that when hes doing interviews in the future that he understands what the Hatch Act requires."
"I think to his credit, Secretary Castro acknowledged the mistake that he made," Earnest added. "He owned up to it, and hes taken the necessary steps to prevent it from happening again. I think thats the expectation that people have when you make a mistake, particularly in a situation like this."

(56,828 posts)While I would rate myself as having a "favorable" opinion on Castro, he would not be my top choice for VP. That said, since he's a Democrat, even a minor violation like this could cause a week's worth of negative headlines.

(112,195 posts)I also think that Trump would use this incident as part of the "Crooked Hillary" meme. I believe that there are other candidates that have more experience and more likely to help the ticket than Castro.

(51,129 posts)Kennedy picked Johnson to balance the ticket, no doubt. But today that doesn't work like it did with a "Southern Dem" party.
This time around, expect the impeachment to begin as the first order of business if the House is still Red. I want to see someone the Rs would truly fear more than Hillary sitting at the head chair in the Senate.
