CNBC: "Possible Hillary VP pick Tim Kaine brings solid economic record"
"Virginia Senator Tim Kaine, a former governor of the Commonwealth, is a leading candidate to be Hillary Clinton's running mate on the Democratic ticket. If so, Kaine has a record that should provide some solid talking points.
Kaine was sworn in as Virginia's 70th governor in January 2006, just as the Great Recession was about to send the national economy in reverse and begin a wave of layoffs that left millions of workers sidelined.
Much of those cutbacks came in the private sector. Thanks in part to the state's heavy reliance on federal contracting and government employment, Virginia was largely spared the worst of the recession's economic pain."

This sort of thing is good press, and I believe we can expect more of this if we Democrats don't make the headlines "Democrats unhappy with VP choice." I have written about this before, but every candidate comes with pros and cons, and Kaine comes with net pros: Experience as a legislator and executive, scandal-free, Spanish-speaking, from a swing state, strong relationship with Clinton, strong record on core progressive issues like control, and no risk losing a Senate seat. VP picks are as much about complementing the top of the ticket as it is addressing a blind spot. Say what you will, but the Clinton and Obama teams tend to win elections, and whomever Clinton chooses (Kaine, Vilsack, Warren, Castro, Stavridis--whatever!), I will firmly believe they've done their due diligence.
