2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumKnocking on doors...
I wonder if knocking on the door of a rabid Trump supporter will be as frightening as knocking on the door of a rabid Shrub supporter. Canvassing for Obama was a little unnerving sometimes, but I only felt physically threatened once when I was chased off some guy's sidewalk (I'm older. I don't run well.). I am concerned this year as I don't own any body armor.

(28,394 posts)Unless you are encountering "dems for don," you should not be going into the enemy camp.
When I canvassed for Obama, people were very nice.... and it was in the middle of a Steelers game!!!

(126 posts)we were given maps. Most folk were very nice in the poorer part of town. Other areas, not so much, but then that was north Florida. Trust me, I left the area after that experience!

(126 posts)I've been an off and lurker here for years and just finally (I'm slow) got my nerve up to actually register. These are exciting times.

(24,044 posts)It produces lists called turfs that have info about people's past voting patterns and you get sent to areas likely to be Dem leaning or solid Dem. No one wants canvassers wasting their time in hostile territory.
