Someone gets it...

Shannon Dingle, a self-proclaimed “pro-life” advocate, mother and Christian speaker publicly stated on her website that she will be voting for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Rodham Clinton.

[What has changed?] Well, nothing in my stance toward abortion. I’m still opposed to it. But since Roe v. Wade, most Republicans have talked a lot about abortion while doing little to make meaningful change in that area of policy. Furthermore, they’ve opposed or even stalled measures that could prevent abortions by targeting the underlying causes, like poverty, education, lack of access to healthcare, and supports for single parent and low-income families.

(P)ro-life can’t just be about ensuring that babies are born without also affirming their value after birth through our words, actions, and policies.”

“Just as Westboro Baptist Church and the KKK don’t represent me as a Christian, and the worst offenders of any demographic aren’t representative of the whole either.” And she believes Trumps plans for immigrants are beyond absurd. She got to know and taught many immigrants who came to the US in hopes of a better life and says she would “break any law to flee for the wellbeing of myself and my children.”

and have been saying for years. It is really exceptional that she didn't leave it for people to assume hers was just another protest vote against Trump. I love that she spelled it out. It is such a common sense POV yet the entire republican party refutes its legitimacy.

One of the things that I most dislike about the Bush family is that they are personally pro-choice, but had no qualms about using it as a wedge issue and tinkering with Roe v. Wade and other women's health issues.

Back in December, I asked my sister what in the hell she was going to do if Trump was the Republican nominee. She didn't hesitate even a little bit...just said she'd hold her nose and vote for Hillary. If it was Bernie, she'd stay home, or vote 3rd party. We all know rational Republicans. Even a few hard right, I'll bet. And Trump scares the hell out of them. They may not put a bumper sticker on their car, or put up a yard sign, they'll even piss and moan about how much they hate her. But when they finish rolling their eyes, on election day, they'll quietly vote for Hillary.

She DOES get it. It's not just about the embryo or fetus. It's about supporting the mother and the POST-birth baby when that support is desperately needed. Unfortunately, the CONS tend to get out their cutting tools to cut funding and support programs as soon as that baby's born.

This is GREAT to see. VERY encouraging. If you're REALLY "pro-life," then it stands to reason that you need to be pro-child and family supports, pro-school supports, pro-food-, shelter-, and health care supports. You need to be pro-job supports and decent pay and equal pay supports so that single parent or two-parent structure can afford to raise that child.

And you URGENTLY need to be pro-reality about climate change. Because our earth supports us all.

The Christian right has been trying to recruit minorities but Trump has completely ruined that effort for at least a generation. The left welcomes all types of people.

It's kind of crazy, but when you think about it, only a creep of Dumpf magnitude could wake a lot of folks up.

For those of us who knew all these things decades ago, it's worse than infuriating.....

Dingle expands upon her belief that that “pro-life” should also apply to:

The lives of people with disabilities
The lives of women
The lives of immigrants
The lives of racial and ethnic minorities
The lives of religious minorities
The lives of the LGBTQ+ communities
The lives of those with HIV/AIDS here and around the world
The lives of our armed forces
The lives of those killed by gun violence

Wow, what a refreshing, unexpected, logical argument. (Now if only pro-lifers would support access to contraceptives for everyone, I think they might be on to something.)

After reading the rest of the article, I'm wondering how many people out there identify as pro-life and have a logical approach like this woman does. If you think about it through the lens of ratings-driven news reporting, where sane folks are considered boring and crazy sells, seems to me the logical conclusion is that maybe we're less divided than we think, on yet one more issue.

I fear for the safety of women who stand up today.
