As I continue to make calls, I keep hearing that this was driven by Trump. He wanted to finish race on his own terms, w/ pals at his side.

Huge rallies. Gloves off. Brutal fights with Clinton. Heavy emphasis on nationalism and populism. That's the Bannon strategy.

Bannon has convinced Trump that rest of campaign needs to be bare-knuckles brawl, w/ full-bore populism/movement politics

That's some pivot.

Researchers reported evidence that Neanderthals practiced burial behavior and intentionally buried their dead some of the time.

There have been aspects to Trump and his campaign at times that strike me, along with his ignorance and treatment of minorities and women, as kind of guttural and barbaric. Sometimes, he appeals to darker, older survival instincts rarely communicating, with his limited vocabulary, visions and concepts that require more intelligence. This is one of those moments.

He cannot match wits or knowledge of government with Hillary so he's not entirely stupid because he recognizes that - like the Neanderthals who sometimes buried their dead. But obviously, he's not very bright either, only able to appeal largely to the lowest common denominators in our society - folks who are challenged intellectually to see though him or are easily duped by his racist ignorance because he's unable to offer more. He has to resort to bullying and intimidation to get his way because he not smart enough to win an argument. Blinded by his overwhelming self-love, he can't see it.

It's to use his word "sad" and yet sort of remarkable that he got as far as he has with this act. It's also closer to a Barnum and Bailey circus freak show than it is a campaign for president.
