If it wouldn't be too much trouble....

I've had my head in the sand since the Maryland primaries in April when my senate candidate lost - and my husband had a stroke. I'm starting to think that I should plan to campaign for Hillary, but not all-out-crazy as I was campaigning during the primaries. So, if I'm going to do this, I need some ammunition. It is especially challenging because my husband hates Hillary and throws it in my face daily. I'm at the point where I know more of the bad stuff than the good stuff. So, two requests:

- catch me up with the highlights of this past summer
- tell me all the things that Hillary has done that make her more than just "not Trump".

I realize that coming to DU with such a request could be considered lazy, but some of you know this stuff off the tops of your heads, so if you would share, I'd be grateful.

Lauren

That will give you an overview of her life and the issues she's fought for.

The real Hillary is very different than evil Satan strawman Hillary you hear about on the Internet.

The video bio posted below is good

Here is the issues and policy page:

The bio website definitely helped. It explains about Goldwater. Some people get born to Republican parents. And then they decide to change...

If you have more links, please let me know. I googled "Hillary Clinton's accomplishments" and saw reams of hate. I think in particular, I'd like to know about her senate record and her time as Sec of State. I'd like to see a list of countries she's visited, because I think that might make a powerful statement.

At any rate, I'll stop here. Thanks for getting me started.

It's so aggravating that the truth ends up being so much more nuanced than simple lying slogans that stick in people's heads.

Trump is the master of the lie; he's the pinnacle of American hucksterism, and it's the key to his success. The truth is he's gone bankrupt 3 or 4 times and made others pay for it. The truth is he's ruined thousands of poor schmoes who never did him any harm.

Anyway, here's a couple of DU links on Hillary's achievements that I bookmarked for later use. I hope they can help. (Some are sort of humorous.) I know it's a long list, but there's some gold in there.

This was super helpful. So amazingly helpful. It has filled me with confidence, comfort, and understanding.

The piece about 25 years of GOP smears was so powerful. I just want to share it with every Bernie supporter. Because people do hate Hillary because of those smears. People don't know that she's VERY liberal, almost as liberal as Bernie. And "people" includes my husband the Hillary-hater. Who really believes that Hillary has people killed who will testify against her.

When I think about the comments that nothing more can be thrown at her, because they've been throwing it for 25 years, I weep, because I know they will come up with more.

I think I got a chance to see how completely she is hated in reading that article. And how hard we'll have to work to break down the filth that smears her.

But I have hope that the message will get out that it's ALL LIES. Yes, some things she did. She defended her husband from charges of infidelity, not knowing that he was getting it on with Monica. And she voted to go to war with Iraq. And supported the Defense of Marriage Act. But the last two she has moved past. Her handling of Bill's infidelity is not one of her strong points. But the more I think about it, the more I think about what a TERRIBLE position she was put in to have her marriage so completely on display. Bill is the jerk. That's really the bottom line.

At any rate, I thank you completely and utterly for taking the time to share the links with me. That have lifted all of the dirt away from my eyes, and I can begin to strategize on how I can campaign for her in light of the smears.

Marriage to a Hillary Hater has been exhausting, but I have been doing my best to post some of the positive links I've found on Facebook - one per day. The most popular one was Michelle Obama's campaign speech at George Mason University. I've shared the myth-busters links, a link about her "complexity" and a few links of her accomplishments. I'm actually running out of links, so I plan to post some of her ads. I have at least 3 vocal anti-Hillary people on my Facebook page, and one of them has been very strident. Still working on a response.

One of the interesting things that is not mentioned is Hillary's book "It Takes a Village". I remember when it came out, and how it made me feel validated as an aunt who took an active role in the lives of my nieces. I think I will post a synopsis.

Thanks for pushing me.

He posted a list of Hillary's moderate positions, suggesting that she supports privatization of government agencies, that she supports fracking, that she won't go after Wall Street. He is convinced that people who are planning to testify against her get killed, like Vince Foster, and some guy in DC. He says that she supports war as a first option. He posted that she is not liked in Haiti. He points out that people died in Benghazi.

And it has made him lose sight of her ability to govern.

BTW - I know that this violates the DU rules, so I'll take it down if requested.

I'm asking because knowing what is most important to him might help me figure out what could be useful for you to tell him.

that in all of these years, I've never sat down and worked out where he is politically. But I can tell you that when he took an extensive match-up test, he came up aligned most with Stein. So that would make him SUPER progressive. (I came up 92% Hillary - really pissed him off...) he came up Hillary 2nd, but he swears that she lies about everything and you can't trust her to keep any of her campaign promises.

Seriously, I am not trying to change his mind. He has accepted the fact that I'm going to campaign for her, and that's what matters most to me. Right now, he can throw anything about her that he wants at me, and I've read enough to know that it's a smear, and it won't shake me. So he can keep his conspiracy theories and GOP smears. The one thing I plan to do is counter every one of them that he posts on Facebook. It will probably drive him nuts...

In the spring primary campaign, someone threw something so completely negative at my candidate that I doubted. Instead of getting the facts. So I know that I have to be firm in my belief in Hillary in order to campaign for her. Over the past few days, I've gotten what I need to convince people who are on the fence. In the future, I will organize them in such a way that I can fight each thing that comes up. But for now, I'm just happy to know that the ammo is out there.

Thanks for your support!!!!!
