CLEVELAND While here for a campaign appearance on Wednesday, Hillary Clinton diverted from her schedule to meet with someone whom she has credited with helping her get through some angst-ridden days as a college student: Sir Paul McCartney.
After the Democratic presidential nominee headlined a rally at a local high school, her motorcade pulled into the Quicken Loans Arena downtown the site of last month's Republican National Convention where the former Beatle was scheduled to play a concert Wednesday night.
McCartney greeted Clinton backstage, where they talked privately for about 30 minutes, according to an aide. Topics were said to include the presidential race, their families and the Summer Olympics in Rio, with Clinton offering McCartney congratulations for a strong performance by the British delegation.
Clinton, who enrolled in Wellesley College in 1965, told Fox News in 2009 that she had turned to the Beatles for more than just music during those days.

(81,267 posts)Sounds like you're in for a very satisfying autumn!
I've loved the Beatles from the first time I heard them, in late 1963. I remember thinking with some wistfulness that it was a shame President Kennedy didn't live to see them.
And as for Hillary, she had me at "well, I suppose I could have stayed home and baked cookies..." I've always believed that if you're blessed, in whatever way you're blessed, then you're obligated to use your gifts. For the greater good. For the benefit of others and your own growth as a person with a conscience. Use your gifts! And I don't mean just use 'em to make money. Use them to help people, or inspire people, or invigorate people, or comfort people, or educate or enlighten people, or entertain people to help take their minds off their troubles. Dammit, it's not supposed to be about getting rich(er) and (more) famous. This is the Presidency of the United States, not a Ringling Brothers & Barnum & Bailey Circus!
It's really distressing to wrap the ol' brain around this concept - as it is actually playing out, in reality. Right before our eyes. Right NOW. Sheesh... This is really where we are. There's one serious candidate from one of the two major parties, and a shrieking carnival freak who lives to stir shit up is from the other. It's bewildering. I've seen a lot of Presidential election cycles in my day. None like this!

(3,112 posts)That's a lesser-known solo McCartney song from either his first or second post-Beatles album, originally written for his late first wife Linda, but at least as a title goes, fits nicely as a caption for this pic. At least I think so.

(9,148 posts)Clinton, who enrolled in Wellesley College in 1965, told Fox News in 2009 that she had turned to the Beatles for more than just music during those days.
As I went through my angst period and struggled with the challenges of living in the real world, the more existential message struck home, Clinton said during the interview, conducted while she was secretary of state.
Clinton said that she considered McCartney and John Lennon to be geniuses, adding that Im just glad that I got to live through that period.
Clintons affinity for the Fab Four has continued to present day. In April, among 25 fun facts she shared with Us Weekly, was this one: I am, and always will be, a Beatles fan.

Many can relate to her words & that unsettled time in their own lives. To that particular generation and those to come" The Beatles" were personal, and eternal.

I was obsessed with the Beatles when I was 16, particularly Paul. I still have all their CDs. It doesn't surprise me that Hillary is a fan.

Paul and John on the Tour Bus
The Beatles devised, wrote and directed a television film called Magical Mystery Tour which was broadcast on BBC Television at Christmas, 1967
Even before Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, had hit the shops, the idea of the programme had been born and work had commenced on the title track.
