2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHold on folks. Trump's about to make a comeback.
Just the feeling I'm getting. Frankly we all should know that this will tighten up, it has to. The media is dying for a horse race and Trump is going to do what he has to to give them one.
As much as we want to ridicule what he actually says (and has said) the massses are just going to be told that he's looking "Presidential" and hear only the best 20 seconds of his daily speech. He's going to visit flooded Louisiana which fits perfectly to this new approach.
Has he already made too big an ass of himself for people to take him seriously? We'll see but trust me he's coming back. Just a feeling I get.
BTW -this Iran payment thing is not going to help either. The press is about to unload on President Obama and his approval rating directly affects to election.
Hold on folks, it's about to get rocky.

(28,394 posts)The media is drooling at the prospect of a "new and improved" trump. I just hope that Hillary did not peak too soon and it is too late to persuade the voters. People seem to have decided, according to some poll I saw. (sorry, no link)

(15,262 posts)The only thing that has actually started is the laugh fest. "What the hell do you have to lose?" Yeah, that's what motivates voters, nothing to lose.

So according to Trump, all black Americans live in poverty, go to bad schools, and have no jobs. And tell me again why I should vote 4 him?

Trump to African-American voters: With poverty, bad schools, no jobs, "What the hell do you have to lose?" - if this isn't stereotyping...

(29,205 posts)he has set the bar so low that now that he "apologized" (for what? and when was there an "I'm sorry"?) and is visiting flooded Louisiana and giving "prompter" speeches... the media will say that he has "turned it around" and the "last reboot worked".
Which is why I just donated $100 to Hillary.

There are pictures of Trump crawling around on the ground. If they want to go to war, Democrats should destroy them in that war.

I created a thread calling on Democrats to be as relentless in attacking Trump as Republicans have been in attacking Hillary:

(10,857 posts)Manafort's Friday news-dump departure is exactly what I predicted for the whole campaign last week.
My assumption is that breaking the letter of espionage laws counts a lot more to the FBI than it does to CNN.
What I failed to account for is the unique combination of stubbornness and stupidity that trickles down from the top of the Trump campaign like fuel oil from the Bismarck's hull. Trump is still on the move, for now, but the fleet is closing in on him.

Democrats have reason to be thrilled by the campaign chaos swarming the presidential campaign of Donald Trump. Three different campaign managers in two months? Poll numbers in the toilet? Reliably red states in danger of turning blue? The rending of garments and gnashing of teeth of dyed-in-the-wool Republicans as the party of Reagan sinks inexorably into the party of Trump? The schadenfreude is just too delicious.
But the shoe will be on the other foot if Democrats dont heed the warning signs Ive noticed in the past few days.
Hours before news of the change in campaign management was announced, Trump gave a speech in Wisconsin. His pitch to African Americans on crime and jobs was undermined not only by his history of hostility toward them but also by his delivering it in overwhelmingly white West Bend, Wis., which he repeatedly referred to as predominantly black Milwaukee. A city literally aflame with tension after a police-involved shooting on Aug. 13.
But as I listened to Trump, I was struck by how he delivered his teleprompter-assisted speech. Gone was the listlessness from previous days. His confidence was back. And that pitch of his had just enough footholds of credibility as it was rooted in traditional law-and-order conservatism the GOP is known for. Still, it was raw.
-snip-
But therein lies the opportunity of the Big Apple billionaire. If he gives more speeches in performance and rhetoric as he did in Wisconsin, dare I say pivot ever so slightly, Trump could give those embarrassed white Republican voters the thinnest of veils they need to vote for him. And that could be all that Trump needs.

for the complete destruction of the Republican party, we need tRump on that ballot in November

0rganism
(23,957 posts)their job is to keep the GOP alive in name only for the next decade. with their "help", the GOP primaries will produce only the crappiest candidates, driving the party further and further into obscurity. eventually, it will dissolve completely, fragmenting into a raftload of fringe white power parties. by that time, the national security and finance-focused Republicans will have joined the Democratic party, and the realignment will be complete, with Democrats left as the dominant mainstream centrist party.
conversely, if tRump is somehow forced off the ticket by the RNC, their support collapses for this election only -- the party nominally saves face and can go back to being a pathway to power for extreme douchebags well into the next century. the realignment will still be pending, but it will be delayed. meanwhile, the alliance of racists and religious fanatics and MIC fatcats persists, along with more of the same horrible-yet-electable candidates we've seen since the '90s. the racists and bigots will be extra ornery, but they'll go along just to have some influence.
by far the best results for the nation are if tRump stays on the ticket and gets thoroughly pounded in November.

(48 posts)It has been almost a month after the RNC and DNC conventions, and Hillary still maintains a healthy lead over Donald. As Trump has stated countless times before, his pivot will never occur, and his latest commercial, which is nothing but fearmongering about "brown people", is proof of that.
As long as Clinton keeps on pointing out Trump's weaknesses, she'll be fine.
