2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWill Melania be with Rump today in Louisiana?
Pence showed up with his wife, HRC regularly appears with Bill, but Melania is usually nowhere to be seen. Yes, she has a 10 year old child, but that hasn't stopped virtually every other spouse in the history of American elections from standing by the candidate. Hmmmmmmm
And this absolutely is NOT an indictment of Melania. I feel sorry for her being married to such a colossal creep. My guess is she's already looking into divorce, and more power to her in that regard.

(7,963 posts)Something to the extent that it's not what she is used to standard wise. Anyway, I would be surprised if she did go.

(26,060 posts)her immigration press conference (on 8/9, we were promised one in the next few weeks - next Tues will be 2 weeks). They wont let her show her face until then but I do give her some leeway because of her young child.

(36,926 posts)when necessary. I'm also sure Rump and wife can afford the very bestest, bigley nannies.

(26,060 posts)to take care of the kids. I have no idea how true it is that Barron has never had a nanny but that's what the trump's have always said.

(5,611 posts)and that has nothing to do with constant care for Barron.

(5,611 posts)I am not "trashing" Melania (is she some delicate flower who needs your protection for some reason?!). I am pointing out that her complete absence from the campaign after the massive debacle with her speech, and the questions surrounding her immigration issues, is obviously VERY convenient timing for Trump. And no I don't believe for a minute that it has to do with devotion to Barron, who attends school and obviously is not constantly with mommy as a ten-year-old boy.
leftynyc
(26,060 posts)And wont until after Labor Day. What else ya got? She doesn't need my protection, I don't even know her. I'm not in favor of trashing families.

Rich people almost always have nannies.
I think Melania is being hidden while she recovers from the beatings Cheeto has inflicted on her.

(26,060 posts)I have no personal knowledge of their situation at all. I also think she doesn't mind staying out of the public eye - she got pounded for giving a speech that was obviously written for her and probably wants no part of politics. Her life was pretty cushy before this.

(26,060 posts)I have no idea what is the truth and frankly I don't give a shit. I'm not into trashing the families of candidates.

(36,926 posts)IMO, she is yet another victim of Rump's narcissism and sociopathic personality disorder. He raped and abused his first wife. Who knows what's going on behind closed doors with Melania.

Wish we had a triple press corps to follow up on all of it.
Makes me puke that he is acting ok for an hour and they forget everything.

(5,611 posts)approve of the hiring of the "racist" Bannon. Melania's total absence from everything post-convention is seriously weird. Trump's "campaign" is absolute mess.

(7,638 posts)Are people insinuating she is an idiot and can't understand what's going on? Or is it some male bullshit of protecting the poor little woman? Grrrrrrr. She is old enough to understand and deserve criticism. She made her choices and she gets to hear the criticism.

(21,849 posts)She won't be with him.
I also don't think she will be in NY. If she were here in NY, she would have been seen by someone doing something, like having lunch or shopping. There's only so long you can stay holed up in a NY tower.
She probably didn't know what she was getting herself into when the Donald decided to throw his hat in the ring but I don't feel sorry for her. My guess is that she is a good match for the Donald, probably as materialistic and emotionally empty as he is. She married him for his wealth. The only reason she would not divorce him may be the terms of the prenuptial agreement.

(15,369 posts)recipe for cookies. As did Bill.
http://www.indystar.com/story/life/2016/08/18/bill-clinton-melania-trump-submit-super-boring-cookie-recipes-family-circle-contest/88967712/
Since 1992, Family Circle magazine has held a contest pitting first lady candidates' cookie recipes head-to-head. Now, we can talk about how this is regressive and downright silly, sure. In fact, the contest was founded when Hillary Clinton made comments about cookie baking: "You know, I suppose I could have stayed home and baked cookies and had teas, but what I decided to do was to fulfill my profession, which I entered before my husband was in public life."
Still, if we're going to continue this tradition, and apparently we are, people should take it seriously. But this year, the entries are about the most boring cookies imaginable.
Try harder.
She may have gotten more respect if she had submitted Michelle's recipe.
