CHARLOTTE, N.C. An 18-year-old Charlotte, N.C., college student who was ejected from Thursday's Donald Trump rally says he went from avid backer to disillusioned opponent after Trump's security accused him of being a known protester.
Jake Anantha, who registered as a Republican and cast his first primary vote for Trump, was wearing a Trump shirt when police removed him from the Charlotte Convention Center before the rally began. He and his father, Ramesh Anantha, say they believe he was profiled because of his dark skin. "It's unbelievably ironic," said Ramesh Anantha, whose parents immigrated from India. He says his son, as a young person of color appearing at a rally where the Republican presidential nominee touted his support for people of color, "should have been looked at as a perfect Trump supporter. He should have been somebody they're putting up on stage."
Kirk Bell, communications director for Trump's North Carolina campaign, said Friday morning he's looking into the incident and will respond.
Jake Anantha graduated from Charlotte-Mecklenburg's Ardrey Kell High this year and enrolled at Central Piedmont Community College. His parents are conservative Republicans, but his dad says the teen's ardor for Trump sometimes made them say "Whoa!"
"When I saw him on TV, I personally didn't mind his rhetoric," Jake Anantha said Friday. "I defended him. When people called him a racist, I said he's a critic of our flawed immigration system. He's strong on Islamic terrorism."

(58,724 posts)One's brain isn't fully formed yet at that age, and often parents are a big influence. This kid's dad is a hard-core right winger.
Hillary Clinton was a Young Republican Goldwater Girl when she was in high school.
By the end of college, she had completely transformed politically.
This happens to quite a few people during those formative years.

(9,093 posts)He goes to a Trump rally and says he is aware of Trump's position on immigration.
He wears a Trump T-Shirt that "shows" he is a big Trump supporter.
He gets thrown out.
He says he is disappointed at the racist profiling of security personnel.
He blames Trump for that because of the "tone" of the campaign and says he will vote Gary Johnson.
Do I think he was shocked at how he was treated and shocked at the tone? No, I think he did a great job at making Trump look bad. If he was really a Trump fan, do I think he would blame Trump for the tone and switch to Johnson? No.

I thought of that scene when tRump first began ejecting various & sundry people from his fascist rallies, and we see that the practice is still going strong.

(2,897 posts)And let's be honest, on November 8th, he's going to cast a vote for Donald J. Trump. They always do. He's upset that his bubble has been burst and sees how the people that he idolizes treat him. If he's anything like the groups I'm familiar with (black republicans and gay republicans), he's going to find a conservative principle to excuse it and return to living a mock-white political existence until the next incident of discrimination.
