polls close in a half hour in Illinois.

I voted today. I'm curious about the local democratic primaries. Hoping the progressive candidates win.

Of course here in Chicago the word "Democrat" can be a loose term. Right wingers get on the ballot as democrats because we don't really have 2 parties here.

4. There are plenty of state legislature races and water reclamation seats

(very important for environmental reasons). There are some US Congress seats up for primaries including some progressives vs blue dogs. We also have races for judges.
It takes a little time to do the research. But, to me it's important.

7. Thank you for saying that

It's really important. And like you, I spend a lot of time doing research. Yup, on the Water Reclamation District commissioners to the sub-circuit court judges.

I was 45th in line at my poll, at noon, which is pathetic. My precinct is certainly mostly Democratic, and it irks me that people don't bother to vote in these primaries for state and county primary races.

We do have a few local ballot initiatives this time (including a possible new elementary school), which may have increased turnout.

10. Important to us all, I believe. But not being there I'm not familiar with what/who is on the ballot

which is why I asked.

Hope everything goes "our" way -- how's it looking thus far?

He has a troubled legal future (Bloggo issues) and she is one damned smart honest lady.
I have no. Lue if she will win. I hope so.

Another one? Judge Pam Hill Veal. EVERY bar association called her an idiot. She is. And yet she can win. Ugh say lawyer who hate bad judge.

6. tom swiss vs Derrick Smith for IL general assembly

swiss is a republican running as a democrat, very anti woman. Smith was arrested for taking a $ 7000 bribe from a day care center.

I voted for Smith. Day care centers are better than halliburton or enron or citizen's united or all that crap.

9. I voted around 5pm

and was the 80th voter in my precinct.

Only 2 other people were there while I was.

I voted for a guy who, based on his stance on issues, seems like a good progressive for our Congressional seat, the newly-drawn 13th, David Gill.

I seriously considered voting in the Republican, for Romney, to try to help force Santorum out of the race (Romney might have a better chance of beating Obama, but Santorum scares the crap out of me), but with Romney leading in most polls, plus learning about Gill, I decided to vote for the progressive rather than dive in to the Republican morass.
