Trump says he may not accept result if Clinton wins, in reversal from debateGOP nominee also spoke at length with the New York Times about the marital infidelities of former president Bill Clinton, insisting Hillary was an enabler
Alan Yuhas @alanyuhas Friday 30 September 2016 21.39 EDT
Donald Trump said on Friday that he would not necessarily accept the results of the presidential election in the event that Hillary Clinton defeated him, reversing his statement four days earlier that he would absolutely respect them.
After the first presidential debate on Monday, the Republican nominee told reporters absolutely I would honor the results of the election should he lose. In an interview with the New York Times on Friday, he backtracked: Were going to have to see. Were going to see what happens. Were going to have to see.
Earlier that day at a rally in Detroit, Trump resurfaced fears of voter fraud and his unsubstantiated complaints of a rigged election. He told supporters that voter fraud is a big, big problem in this country, although research has found a few dozen potential incidents of in-person voter fraud in 14 years of US elections. He also urged them to go and watch the polling places and make sure it is on the up and up.

(31,146 posts)what will he do about it? He is so unhinged I have to worry about that.

(2,542 posts)Any effort to inflate charges of a "rigged" election will only blow up in his face. After his campaign costs them the Senate, I doubt the GOP is going to continue playing along with his party-destroying antics.

(58,785 posts)But not at rallies because he'd have to pay for them himself and actual attendance would drop to almost nothing.
For a narcissist whose appetite for attention has grown even more enormous than his greed for money, it really seems as if only a cable network devoted to mostly showing off Trump's greatness and monetizing his name could satisfy those appetites. And Roger Ailes happens to be without one to run.

(40,416 posts)And no Donald, voter fraud is not a big problem, let alone any problem whatsoever. Sounds like something from the Department of Make Shit Up Department, in other words, the GOP.

The only people left around Trump will be his children and Melania. We're not exactly talking a bunch a brain trust of ideas there.

I don't understand why is followers think he will do what he says. There's no history to back that up. His whims change hourly.

He'll contact Paul Ryan, work with him to pass and meaninglessly sign laws?
He'll go cry in the corner? Go on a coke binge? Ask people to shoot Clinton?
Seriously....wtf

I trust America will prove to be sane enough never to have to ask Trump that same question.

PoindexterOglethorpe
(25,853 posts)And given that Hillary Clinton has extremely high negatives, if Republicans retain control of the House, it won't be very hard for them to stir up serious dislike of a President Hillary Clinton.
We can only hope that strong disgust for Trump and the Republicans who are supporting him will result in many more Democrats being elected this November.

(25,853 posts)view here negatively.
That's high. Luckily for us, 61% of voters view the Donald negatively.
It is very important that we understand that many people are going to be voting for her with little enthusiasm because the alternative is so incredibly worse. Equally important, we can't take her winning in November for granted. Nor a smooth transition to the White House, especially if Trump (as he no doubt will) pulls shit about the election being stolen and tries to claim he "won't abide by" the results.
And unless the Democrats pull off substantial gains in both the House and the Senate, she will face every bit as much obstruction as Obama did.
LuvLoogie
(6,999 posts)What are those extremely high negatives?
PoindexterOglethorpe
(25,853 posts)one linked from here on DU (and unfortunately I don't recall which one it was) and the simple question: do you have a positive or a negative view of the candidate was asked. That's the negativity.
If you are thinking that now that Hillary Clinton is the nominee that all is wonderful and happy among those who will be voting for her, you are sadly mistaken.
We don't want DY to become a bubble that blocks out the real world out there. In the real world a lot of people still don't like her, and you can't just chalk it up to misogyny and shrug it off. Whatever the root cause, it's very real.
LuvLoogie
(6,999 posts)People come to DU and state that dislike often. I am asking you to articulate these extremely high negatives you speak of. Be concrete.
What are Hillary's negatives?
A lot of people don't like Brussels Sprouts, either. I love them.
PoindexterOglethorpe
(25,853 posts)what her negatives are, someone will alert because it will appear that I am trashing Hillary. I suspect you know exactly what those negatives are and don't need me to name them. However if you don't know what they are, I'm sure a little on-line research on your part will be helpful.

Trump can trot out all the lawyers he wants, but if he loses, he loses, and there is no real way forward from that loss.
It might be refreshing for Trump to start behaving like a grown-up instead of like a pugnacious dick.

(49,001 posts)Guaranteed it will not be the last option.
He might try a scorched earth policy and try to make the obstructionism against Obama look tame.
He might try to split the Grumpy Old Paleface party and lick his wounds reminiscing about his Twitter-hall Putsch.
He might write "Mein Twitter Struggle" in his jail cell serving time on tax evasion, bribery, charity fraud, candidate declaration form fraud, and embargo busting, and plot there a Trump 2.0 with Roger "Goebels" Ailes, Roger "Himmler" Stone, and Stephen "Heydrich" Bannon.
He might be busy with a fire sale of assets when Putin pulls the strings of his Russian oligarchs and calls in tRump's loans.
He might end up selling toy jet planes in infomercials on late-night TV.
