2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forum*****BREAKIN NAT'L POLL***** - CLINTON 42% (+4) TRUMP THE CHUMP 36% (-3)
Hillary Clinton continues to widen her lead over Donald Trump after the presidential candidates shared the debate stage for the first time one week ago.
In a new Politico/Morning Consult survey of likely voters taken Sept. 30 through Oct. 2, the Democratic nominee leads her Republican rival by 6 points, 42 percent to 36 percent. Its a sizable swing since the pre-debate poll which showed Trump leading by 1 point, underlining what a rough week it was for the New York business mogul.

(4,858 posts)...and a lot can happen. As has been said often: we have to act as if we're ten points behind, and not let up our grip for a moment. The media might declare Trump the "winner" of the second or third debate if he doesn't foam at the mouth and fall over. The dynamic might change again.

(3,282 posts)Really the winner in this election will be the person who motivates more people to vote. GOTV can't be stated enough. It's never been more important.

(9,895 posts)That needs to remain the mantra.
At this point, the Clinton campaign should divert ALL resources to the ground game in swing states and ensure that there is a robust apparatus to defend voters from Trump "poll watchers" and from corrupt local government officials in small districts where the shenanigans and vote stealing are most likely (rural Ohio and Pennsylvania for sure...but nationwide as needed)!
Trump is the political equivalent of "The Blob" (in more ways than one...). He absorbs negative and positive energy the same way and just increases in girth as a result. Ads run for Hillary, or against Trump, will make no difference in the polls or outcome from here in...spend every last dollar on the GOTV efforts instead.
Get out the vote or watch this thing get stolen like '00 or '04...I am almost positive that Trump has cut a deal with the GOP to allow Pence and the GOP to govern without any interference from him as long as he is the first PINO (President in name only).
Given the amount of power absorbed into the executive branch since 9/11, that is a terrifying outcome that should send EVERY eligible voter to the polls on the 9th...if it does not, if we fail to GOTV, we lose much, much more than an election this time.

(1,493 posts)The polls are definitely going gangbusters in Hillary's favor, but we've got over a month to go until the election. This is the weirdest and wildest election cycle ever and anything can happen between now and election day. We've got to work like we're 10 points behind and work all the way through election day.

(22,669 posts)North Carolina looks like she's on board and looking good. The forecasts for your states are tightening as Hillary's numbers shoot up and Donald's drop.
REGISTER or RE-REGISTER as many voters as you can! This is the meat and potatoes drive to the finish. A registered voter is a voting voter.
...We are in the meat & potatoes days of the campaign - voter registration

(3,282 posts)FiveThirtyEight has has a 68% of Clinton winning the election, up about 15% from last week. Gotta keep those numbers moving in the right direction and crush Trump.
GOTV has never been more important than it is right now. Get people motivated while Hillary's seen as being in control and on the offensive.

Only because they include the LATimes nonsense. But yes, GOTV no matter what the polls say.

(32,723 posts)This is a media fiction based on the fantasy that the choice was between the "establishment candidate" and "the outsider".
The establishment candidate on the Republican side was Jeb! and on the Democratic side it was Hillary.
The outsiders were Trump for the Republicans and Bernie for the Democrats.
Based on that alone they claim all of "the outsider" votes from millennials are now a lock in the Trump column.
Forget issues.
Millennials don't care about issues.
Issues are wonky and nerdy and boring and thus,....bad for ratings.

(1,132 posts)Unless every poll is wrong, Millennials absolutely despise Trump. Abhor him, detest him.
I've seen instances where he does worse than Gary Johnson with this demographic, lol.
