Late Saturday night, the New York Times released a portion of Trumps taxes that show that due to a $916 million dollar loss in 1995, Trump may have avoided paying taxes for nearly two decades. . .
Yet, while now they are declaring him a tax genius for not paying his fair share, back in 2012 Trump actually whined about people not paying their taxes while the nation has such crippling debt.

This weekend the New York Times detonated a bombshell by reporting that Donald Trump, using a loophole that benefits wealthy dynastic families, declared nearly a $1 billion loss on his 1995 tax returnsa loss that possibly allowed him to avoid paying any federal taxes for 18 years. (The full impact of this loss is not publicly known because Trump has stubbornly refused to follow the traditional practice for presidential candidates releasing his tax returns.) The Times account included a damning quote from Trump's former accountant: "Here the guy was building incredible net worth and not paying tax on it." After the story broke, the Trump campaign released a statement blasting the newspaper, calling Hillary Clinton more crooked than Richard Nixon, and claiming Trump "has paid hundreds of millions of dollars in property taxes, sales and excise taxes, real estate taxes, city taxes, state taxes, employee taxes and federal taxes, along with very substantial charitable contributions."
Without his tax returns, there is no way to determine if the campaign's assertion about Trump's taxes and charitable contributions is true. But in the past, Trump has frequently decried other Americans for not paying taxes.
On July 18, 2011, Trump appeared on Fox News and was asked about President Barack Obama's comments that well-to-do Americans should make a sacrifice for the country by paying more in taxes. He replied:
Well, I dont mind sacrificing for the country, to be honest with you. But you know, you do have a problem because half of the people don't pay any tax. And when he's talking about that he's talking about people that aren't also working, that are not contributing to this society. And it's a problem. But we have 50 percent. It just hit the 50 percent mark. Fifty percent of the people are paying no tax.

Trump bashes tax avoiders who "get away with murder."
This weekends bombshell report in the New York Times revealed that Donald Trump claimed a $916 million loss, according to a copy of his 1995 New York state tax return, and that the billionaire Republican presidential nominee might not have paid any federal income tax in nearly two decades as a result.
. . .
Here are 10 examples in recent years of Trump lashing out against those who supposedly dont pay enough in taxes. . . .

(783 posts)Trump, along with a slew of other celebrities, was identified during a New York State investigation into tax dodging by the Bulgari jewelry store on Fifth Avenue. In a scam to avoid paying sales tax to the state, the jewelry store was sending empty boxes to out-of-state addresses for celebrity customers. According to news reports from the time, Trump purchased an item from the store worth $65,000. Trump helped build a case against the jewelry store, who the prosecutors considered the bigger fish to fry, and faced no consequences himself.
When Trump built the Grand Hyatt Hotel, the agreement reached with New York City required that he return a portion of the profits. However, an audit in 1989 discovered that Trump and the hotels ownership team understated its net profit by more than $5 million and deprived the city of almost $3 million in unreported proceeds. According to Karen Burstein, the city auditor who reviewed the Grand Hyatt financial books, Trump was complicit in this scheme.
He cheated the city of a substantial amount of money, Burstein said. This wasnt just a good business deal. This wasnt just business thinking. This was manipulation It was an example of extraordinary flim-flammery.
