"SNIP.............
The speech transcripts, a major subject of contention during the Democratic primary, include quotes from Clinton about her distance from middle-class life (Im kind of far removed); her vision of strategic governing (you need both a public and a private position); and her views on Wall Street, health care, and trade (my dream is a hemispheric common market, with open trade and open borders).
John Podesta, the Clinton campaign chairman, was the latest victim in a wave of hacks on key figures in Democratic politics and the political establishment in what administration officials say is an effort by Russia to undermine the election.
The excerpts came in an email to Podesta and other senior officials from research director Tony Carrk, sourcing the flags to the Harry Walker Agency, which represented Clintons paid speech deals after she left the State Department in 2013.
During the Democratic primary, Sen. Bernie Sanders repeatedly pressed Clinton to release the transcripts of the speeches, which were delivered to a variety of groups including investment banks like Goldman Sachs.

(2,056 posts)When someone is hired to give a speech to an audience it is typically tailored to the audience.
For myself I sort of have two unique public and private views on some issues, too...like abortion. For myself personally, I believe it is murder and I could never do it under any circumstances. That is the standard I have had for myself. However, politically I am pro-choice because I believe abortion must be legal in order to be regulated and because for some people in some cases it may be the best choice. I hate that it's used as after the fact birth control as well. My point here is that it's not abnormal to have personal views that differ from your public positions. The example I gave is a good example how that can happen.
So yeah...speech transcripts don't matter to me. Hillary is the best choice this time around and she has my vote, period.

(2,056 posts)No one else has a snowball's chance in hell of winning. I have never cared much for Hillary and at one point really disliked her. Know what...I'm voting for Hillary come hell or high water because Trump is that repulsive and disgusting that I'd vote for a steaming pile of dog shit over him.
The only people who care about this are Trump supporters who are on a witch hunt. No one else gives a flying fart.

(3,635 posts)Many of these hacked documents/pics/audio are then altered to make it look like a scandal.
One thing that irks me is why aren't Dems taking much greater measures to prevent hacking, when they know they are under attack from the Russian, alt-right, alt-left, etc.

Thanks.

(3,635 posts)Hacking groups are criminal organizations, that have an agenda, thus there is no real way to know what is real and what isn't.

(41,960 posts)No big secrets, no bombshells. Admitting she's a bit removed from the middle class is a revelation? Saying things go on in back rooms is a big deal?
Of course next to bragging about sexually assaulting women few things have that resounding thud.
I've been skimming them, and reading some bits quite carefully.
There is no "October Surprise" hidden in there. The contents would have been more "exciting" (not really, but some Bernie supporters could have culled some, out of context, "sound bites" from them, not that it would have changed the big picture) during the primaries. But, in the current context? A big, fat, NOTHING.

(5,269 posts)Several things we have already heard about:
Lagging State Dept govt technology she discovered upon becoming Sec of State and precautions she and staffers had to take to prevent security breaches while traveling overseas.
Need for Wall St. insiders to lead reforms while praising Teddy Roosevelt.
She strongly advocates for moving ACA towards single payer
While admitting to having a privileged life far removed from middle class, she says she still remembers her childhood that wasn't affluent

(3,635 posts)especially the "game is rigged" type quotes, which only came into popular usage during the primaries, it just sounds like someone trying to split Dems added that language.
Much of this is very measured, sensible and consistent with the views of a moderate center-left Democrat, which Hillary/Bill/Obama are, and which I think most actual rank-and-file Dems (as opposed to alt-left hipsters, many of whom are not Dems) agree with. After all, it is an approach that has won Dems 5 of the last 6 presidential election popular votes, with the only popular vote loss (in 2004) still a close election.
The idea should always be a balance between main street and wall street that works to grow the economy and uplift the middle class, as Bill Clinton did in the 90's.

(10,895 posts)With the hurricane and Trump's lewd tape, this will get buried quickly.
Besides, there's probably nothing in the transcripts anyways.
GoCubsGo
(32,080 posts)Unless it contain sort of lewdness that was contained in the latest Trump recording, not many people are going to care. And, unless somebody recorded her speech and wrote down what she said, there are no "transcripts." Nobody brings in a stenographer to record speeches. That is the kind of thing you find in a court of law, not in a speech to a corporation, or anyone else. And, if there ARE recordings, you can bet everything you own that they would have been made public months and months ago.

(4,640 posts)She was paid to give speeches as a private citizen. So what?
bmstee01
(453 posts)If it's not. It tells me a few things.
1. She acknowledges she is removed from the middle class. That's why it was important for her to go on her listening tour and really understand the issues facing Americans.
2. Public and private views. There are things that no President or official can say publicly. That's not news.
3. Hemispheric open borders. That's not a bad dream. If there could be a way to trade fairly I'm ok with that. We have to trade. Trade is a good thing.
vdogg
(1,384 posts)Some of this stuff may have got traction in the primary, but there are no smoking guns or bombshells. A lot of what's in there are positions that she's taken publicly.
bmstee01
(453 posts)That to me stands out as something that seems false. I have been a Hillary follower and supporter for years. I have hung on her every word. That just doesn't sound like words that she uses. It just seems very convenient for that phrase to be in there. She just doesn't talk about things in those terms.
