Yet another CEO saying he is going to put a surcharge on the menu for Obama Care and then have people deduct the charge from the servers tip. Wow these people really need to be put in their place. If they can't afford the price to do business in this Country perhaps they should lobby the White House for a single payer system. Not feeling for them at all. I suggest we BOYCOTT!!!

(34,136 posts)In fact, for most of the restaurants where the owners are making all these idiotic statements I either haven't ever eaten at one (Papa John's) or haven't eaten there for years.
The one I will miss is Waffle House. They make the best BLTs for quick and cheap.
My roommate worked her way through college and a graduate nursing degree by working as a waitperson at Denny's. Back then at a Denny's near campus it was hard for her to make enough money to eat, much less pay tuition. Because of her, I tip really really generously unless the service is unreasonably bad. Especially at cheap places like Waffle House, I tip 40-50%. More expensive places, I tip closer to 30%.

I started my boycott 25 years ago when I went there and every single thing in my breakfast order appeared to be microwaved. Ugh. Never again.

(6,858 posts)All these people have to do is raise prices 25 cents per meal, and then like magic, healthcare for all!
But no, the CEOs whine and cry about how they will be bankrupt.
Really?

(37,161 posts)I'm betting there are provisions in the franchise contract against "damaging the brand". A general boycott encourages Corporate to enforce such provisions. That would give this turdball bigger headaches than just boycotting his franchise.

(165 posts)and even worse place to work. I was there as a teenager and through college. They'd cut hours to keep you from being considered full time, and that was in the early 90's.

(48,181 posts)I don't ever go to "Denny's". Went once, will never ever go again. It reminds me of a really bad hangover.
I don't ever buy papa john's food substance. Ate that thing once, never again. Not quite sure what it was, but I am certain it was not pizza.
I've never been to a chick fil a. I'm not even sure what that is. Chickens go in one end, shit comes out the other.
I mistakenly went to Applebee's once under the impression that it was a restaurant.

(34,136 posts)The one time I ate at one I got food poisoning. It probably should have been reported to the health department but I was too sick to go to a doctor, much less report anything!

(20 posts)We have our heroes returning in flag draped coffins as we have an umbrella of protection for all America by our valiant heroes who stand on the wall. I never asked the grieving family when I perform honor duty for fallen veterans if he was a Republican Democrat or independent all that is needed to know is that he was an American.
Greed does not stand on the wall or come home in a flag draped coffins and we never provide an honor guard for greed.

Heck, most people don't even have a concept of franchising.
Anyone who speaks to the press essentially represents the whole corporation they work with.

(2,708 posts)Last monday, nov 12 2012, was veterans day & several restaurants offered free breakfasts lunches & dinners to veterans with an I.D. Since I am one - no special awards so pls no unwarranted sympathy or admiration - I went down sunday to a couple free dinners. Sunday was the day most restaurants offered the freebies while monday was actually vets day, & only some offered free meals on monday.
Denny's, to it's credit, offered a free breakfast on both days, but limited it to all you can eat pancakes, which for most of us is 3 or 4. Not bad, free coffee too, so I give em a thumbs up; but denny's was the least expensive offer of the 7 restaurants I went to on both days, sunday & monday (vets day has become my favorite holiday, free food!). The breakfast at 'friendly's' was some 'big twodo', eggs, french toast, & sausage, valued $5, better than the pancakes.
The best deal was TGIF, thank goodness it's friday, or thank god, whatever, a free ribs dinner valued at 18.49, and then was Olive Garden selected menu list shrimp alfredo $10, then Outback free bloomin onion, then chili's turkey sandwich, then yum yum red robin free burger/fries.
Other's giving freebies were applebees, sizzlers, texas roadhouse (none up here in n.e. pennsy).
But denny's had a history of racism going back a couple decades, some kind of flap I recall, and I rarely go there, but I rarely go out to eat anywhere.
Btw, I did leave a dollar or two tip at each place, which found it's way into waitresses pocket, not the restaurants profit margins.

(190 posts)CEO's and franchisees, whose success or failure is ultimately lain at the mercy of the free market and consumer choice, decide that the prudent thing to do is to prioritize their own butt-hurt political opinions above effective public relations. If this election cycle has accomplished anything, it's stoking the flames of CON-servative white hot rage to levels not seen in decades, to the point that business men are alienating the majority of the public on whom their continued success is entirely dependent for the sake of making some kind of childish ideological point. At least these buffoons are saving us the trouble of developing apps to help avoid businesses which support plutocratic labor exploitation and social devolution.
But then, Denny's has had a tense relationship with the Obama Administration from day one:

(66,388 posts)No plans to ever again. I even avoid like the plague our local equivalent, Shari's. About 15 years ago, I was having a salad at a local Shari's when I found shards of glass in the salad bowl. I don't think I ingested any, or things might have been much worse. I called the manager over and showed him the glass shards in the bowl. His response was basically 'how intriguing', then took the bowl, and wandered away, never to be seen again. No apology, no comping the meal, nothing.
For inexpensive casual dining, I always patronize a local business. I've gotten to know and like the owner/managers, I get better food and service, and I'm supporting the local business community.
Denny's sucks...

(8,217 posts)If there is one place that I would opt for McDonalds before it... That would be Denny's.
This coming from a guy that would go to the dingiest looking Chinese Take Out place as a point of pride.

(18,634 posts)They are as expensive as the pricey upscale restaurants in the area.
It's ridiculous.
And now to patronize Dennys is to join the fight to eliminate your own health insurance.

Shitty food...now THERE'S a reason to avoid Denny's.
