Bob Dole is now the only living GOP nominee for president still supporting Trump

Mr. Dole, the Republican Party’s presidential pick in 1996, is the only former GOP nominee to express support for Mr. Trump.
Reached by phone on Saturday, Mr. Dole said he had “great respect” for Sen. John McCain of Arizona, who said earlier in the day that he would no longer support the party’s 2016 nominee.

“I look at it a little differently,” the 93-year-old Mr. Dole said. “I’ve been a Republican forever. The party has been very good to me. I’ve had many opportunities as a Republican, and I find it very difficult to desert the party after Trump won 40% of the vote in the primary.”

“It was 11 years ago,” Mr. Dole said. “He shouldn’t have said it, but there’s nothing he can do about it except to do well in the debate. I think he can overcome a lot of this in the debate tomorrow night.”

“The Clintons aren’t pure either,” Mr. Dole said.

No. How.

Whatever any of us would think of his policies, Goldwater was not an insane cretin willing to do anything for power. He had a conscience and sense. Look it up (head start: John Dean's book "Conservatives Without Conscience" was apparently originally planned as a joint project with Goldwater).

He has, at various points, shown himself to have a conscience and some sense.

Yet, here he is endorsing Trump for (apparently) ideological reasons.

I have no idea what's going on with Dole. I do know that no way would Goldwater condone, or worse, endorse Donald effing Trump. Goldwater, for one, was willing to buck his insane party; Dole seems to put loyalty to that party above everything else. That doesn't indicate conscience or sense to me.

totally respectful of women ever since. This wasn't just one teeny lapse on his part. It's simply part of a life long pattern.
