Washington Post: Trump Hiding Out in His Penthouse Lost In a World of Delusion

-Snip-

Trump’s extraordinary campaign has been guided by his own instincts, and on Friday, his instinct was to hunker down and fight. Trump spent the next 24 hours in New York mostly ensconced in Trump Tower with only his most loyal advisers, steadfastly refusing to accept or recognize the full reality of what was happening outside.

-Snip-

“People are calling and saying, ‘Don’t even think about doing anything else but running,’ ” Trump said. “You have to see what’s going on. The real story is that people have no idea about the support.”

For the entirety of his campaign, Trump has lived in a bubble that he helped create. Inside that world, Trump could do no wrong and was forgiven for virtually all of his transgressions. But this controversy was different. His vice-presidential running mate, Mike Pence, who has perfected the art of explaining away Trump’s missteps while trying to preserve his own reputation, on Saturday left Trump to clean up his own mess. The Indiana governor backed out of attending a GOP festival in Wisconsin as Trump’s substitute, and the statement he issued — under his own letterhead — offered no comfort to his running mate.

Inside Trump Tower, the candidate and his confidants were seeing things through a different lens. Trump said in his interview with The Post that he would be able to keep Republicans united because of their common foe: Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. “It’s because she’s so bad. She’s so flawed as a candidate. Running against her, I can’t say it’d be the same if I ran against someone else, but running against her makes it a lot easier, that’s for sure,” Trump said.

How are so many people JUST NOW offended by Trump? It's like getting to the 7th Harry Potter book & realizing Voldemort might be a bad guy.

2. The reason why people are suddenly shocked

is because trump isn't shitting on minorities, he is attacking all women. Now the whites in the suburbs suddenly see him as a threat. Blacks, Mexicans, Muslims, who cares? But now that he is going after white women that is a step too far!

Honestly I think the political damage was due to him using language the puritans don't want their kids to hear.

Obviously, his statements were horrifying because they admit to and encourage sexual assault, but I don't think that's the reason for the political damage. Given all the unbelievable sh*t the media let him get away with, I have to think that if he had merely used more polite words in this video, the media would have let him get away with this as well.

4. The reasons, I believe, are different than those stated

First, many whites in suburbs already saw him as a threat. At some level they were already shocked.

Blacks, Mexicans, Muslims, who cares? Many care.

Each of these have something that can be legitimately discussed and so it fools some into thinking that it is ok to look at things his way. I do believe that most suburbanites do care. Although many may not care enough.

You say that he is now going after white women. But, perhaps he is going after all women.
(some audio from Stern's show implies that this is so.)

The thing that is totally different now is that it sounded like he was talking about a pattern of committing sexual assault.

Nothing about that can be "legitimately discussed".

****How are so many people JUST NOW offended by Trump?****
Most were offended, at some level, long before.

I myself have been highly offended and worried about a Trump presidency. I also worry about how so many can be pulled in by a person of charisma.

We should all hope that Trump drops out of the race. No Human should want to risk such a person becoming president just so that there is less of a chance that a Republican ends up winning.

6. I think what did him in is the P-word

Giving unwanted kisses is sexual harassment for sure. But using the P-word and grabbing at a woman's crotch, and bragging that women let him get away with it because he's a star is just so lewd and vulgar that people recoil at hearing about it. Right from the very beginning, I wrote several comments that I found Trump to be vulgar and incompetent. Then as time went by with more outrageous comments from him, I commented that he was depraved, defined as being morally corrupt. Now I label him as toast. Overdone toast. I'm tired of him and wish he would just slink away.

Before this incident, Clinton's team had so many incidents of sexism and misogyny to work with, that it created ads with them.

We need to stop engaging in a form of racism and sexism, which involves claiming that white women are somehow getting better treatment than are other groups that Donald hates.

And your hypothesis is inconsistent with the results of polls showing the Rethug voters aren't much affected by Donald's latest remarks:

That may be a story. But the real story is that Trump has no idea about his LACK of support. Let's hope that continues for one more month.

Striking similarity to how Nixon was near the end of his presidency after Watergate. I suppose that's some karma considering Trump's former Nixon men Ailes and Stone are advising him.
