"And so I sort of get away with things like that.

Trump: Ill go backstage before a show and everyones getting dressed and ready and everything else. And you know, no men are anywhere. And Im allowed to go in because Im the owner of the pageant. And therefore, Im inspecting it. You know Im inspecting it. I want to make sure everything is good.
Stern: Youre like a doctor.
Trump: Is everyone OK? You know theyre standing there with no clothes. Is everybody OK? And you see these incredible looking women. And so I sort of get away with things like that.

The man should be on a list of sexual predators.

(29,067 posts)As a female, I am offended by P word...Could we give it the same treatment we give other offensive words here and decline the full spell out? Despite one broadcaster's saying it, MOST, like Rachel for instance, realize its potential for offense and abbreviate it or find another way to indicate it. I think most DU women would appreciate this.
thank you

(6,926 posts)and the things he says and does. Otherwise, it kind of cleans it up. Just my opinion. Also any woman who supports him should have to hear it as a reminder her of her lack of self-respect.
whathehell
(29,067 posts)but given that we've all heard and seen it here several times, I doubt there's a chance of there being a "misunderstanding" or undermining of it's offense as used by Trump. As for your last point, I doubt that DU is the best place to find and punish Trump supporters.
TNNurse
(6,926 posts)but I am damned determined to not clean up anything he says. As for your last point, I think there are people who sneak on here to troll..so....

(8,698 posts)In the context of a quote or in reference to tRump's comments, I think it's valid.
Covering it up as a different word takes away the seriousness of what trump was saying and doing.
Trump is a sexual predator who has likely committed sexual battery dozens of times. He was ok with calling his own daughter "a piece of ass". This guy is a vile scumbag and he deserves every one of these words being used in the context they were delivered.
whathehell
(29,067 posts)The reality of my being offended? Would you 'disagree' with a Black man who claimed.tobe offended by seeing the N word spelled out Do you object to referring to a racial slur as the N- word on the basis that it "covers it up"?
You noted another offensive phrase used by Trump - "piece of ass"- and, as indicated, you rightfully used quote marks to question it's legitimacy....That is the ONLY type of restraint I am requesting - quote marks or some other indicator of it's unacceptable nature. I hardly think that's too much to ask, especially given the willingness to show that respect to other groups.

(8,698 posts)I am not saying you don't have a right to feel that way or that your wrong for feeling that way.
Only expressing my opinion as to why using those words, in the right context and attributed to the speaker, is important.
I apologize if I came across poorly. We are on the same side here
bettyellen
(47,209 posts)That. I don't give a damn if anyone thinks it's too PC- it's being respectful to women. We Dems more than anyone should be damned grateful to women voters right now- don't you think?
whathehell
(29,067 posts)That I wasn't calling for a "ban" on the word, don't you?
I was simply asking people to modify it y using quote marks or abbreviations as we do with terms that demean OTHER groups like gays and people of color. I have no idea why this should be too much to ask...Saying it is means we women aren't entitled to that same concern or respect -- Period.
Pacifist Patriot
(24,653 posts)not associated with Trump. When quoting him, I think it's valid. I don't want his words sanitized.
PassingFair
(22,434 posts)I find the term horribly offensive, but I've used it when quoting Trump.
I think the phrase "*ussygate" is hilarious and sums up the contempt I feel for that man.
whathehell
(29,067 posts)Do you feel the same way about racial.slurs like "nigger"? Is using quote marks or terms like the 'n-word' too "sanitizing" for you? and if not, why not?.... Funny, I've yet to hear a single complaint to that effect.
What you are all missing is the KEY concern, and that is simple RESPECT or the FEELINGS of many, if not most women here...Funny, how that's always given a back seat .
Pacifist Patriot
(24,653 posts)I think we're saying the same thing. I, and others, misunderstood your first post as a request the word not be used at all rather than asking quotations marks be used when appropriate.
I'm female so I'm not sure what your final point is.
whathehell
(29,067 posts)and I'm glad to see you agree.
As for others missing my point, I guess we all sometimes fail to read entire posts, even though they had the example of the OP, who not only understood immediately, but showed the grace snd sensitivity to comply with the request.
I'm not sure what you mean by my "final point", Pacifist.
Pacifist Patriot
(24,653 posts)from using the phrase "decline to spell it out" rather than "restrict its use to quotes." I don't think any of us would have disagreed with that. Your original post made it sound like you wanted even his words to be substituted with euphemisms or asterisks.
I may have misunderstood again, but I am frequently mistaken as male and I thought I was being perceived has not having respect for women's feelings because I felt it perfectly fine to use the word rather than sanitize Trump's speech.
whathehell
(29,067 posts)There was no misunderstanding if anyone thought I was suggesting using asterisks..My point was to indicate it as unacceptable using asterisks OR quote marks or any of the other things we do here with offensive terms, I.e. "the "n word". I doubt I can be any clearer than that.

(36,221 posts)I do not think woman should clean up a persons misogyny. The offense is in the context in which one uses the word.
I have had posts hidden for spelling out the word when the context of the post was my objecting to it. It becomes a weapon misogynists use. Ie she is just as bad for using the word. ummm no!
whathehell
(29,067 posts)by using terms like then "n-word"? I have never seen, nor do I want to see,.that ugly racial slur spelled out, by you or anyone else here..I simply wonder why so little of that consideration is shown to women
Not for the first time, I think how depressing it is to see women unwilling to show the respect for themselves they routinely how to others.
boston bean
(36,221 posts)I do not think black persons should feel compelled to sanitize a bigots language.
Nor do I feel they are disrespectful to themselves for spelling it out.
whathehell
(29,067 posts)No one is trying to do bigots any favors, but this is DU which should be a place safe from hurtful slurs NOT signaled as being such.. Concern is for the feelings of the oppressed, not the oppressor.
