hillary's "secretiveness"

i watched the frontline choice 2016
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/film/the-choice-2016/

i learned something about hillary that made me understand this a bit, i think.
she has talked about her mother's hardships and how she "overcame" them, something most of us know means learned to cope and live a life w scars that usually do not heal easily.
hillary has talked about her childhood as tho it were perfectly idilic.

but they revealed that actually her parent's marriage was rocky. because of course it was. it's damn hard shit to grow up like that and have a decent marriage. a smooth calm one is probably too much to ask of a mere mortal.
they pointed out that it is very common for children from such homes tend to build a shell. they know when not to invite the other kids to the house. unless, of course, they are other kids from troubled homes. they watch what they say, and are wary of topics that might become revealing. they know what to say, and what to keep quiet about.
i can attest that this is fact.

so, yeah, secretive? a predictable outcome of a loud and rocky home.
and it has served her in very good stead, indeed.
it has given her an excellent bs detector, and a shield against false friends.
it has given her a ready defense mechanism.
it has given her the gift of putting your head down and prevailing no matter the chaos.

it's a freakin super power.

She cherishes privacy but has had every element of he life ripped apart and dissected. When and how she can she protects Chelsea and her life.

Her mother's story was brutal. I can't imagine not hugging and kissing and spending as much time with my daughter as possible.

of your observations. Really loved the PBS Frontline film. If there are people who haven't watched it, please do.

Your insights are real, but people are only talking about her "secretiveness" in order to undermine her. If she were a man she'd be called "reserved," like President Obama, when they bothered to talk about it.

It's important to remember that women are naturally seen as more trustworthy and responsible than men and therefore a genuine vast right-wing conspiracy has worked hard to make people believe she is not trustworthy. Therefore, "secretive," "duplicitous," etc.

Throw me another typical pejorative term for women, and H in this case, and I'll translate that one too. Demeaning language for women, old people, "them" (whoever them is), is as old as language and pejorative terms for political enemies as old as politics.

Feisty Bitch here (Interpretation: Older woman who isn't fooled by this crap).

It's just another media construct. Who knows how it started. Maybe she refused to give AK press a tour of her closet or something.

"The Feminine Mystique" on her bedside table. A quarter century post publication would have given all the AR conservatives time to hear about it.

(Just a joke, ARans. My daughter's one of you.)

maybe it is just outright sexism. i dont know how to sort the spin from the truth sometimes.
but i think the was she protected chelsea speaks to this part of her.

my point is about how someone's (esp a woman's) super powers get played as weaknesses.
