OK, I know that my opinion does not count, still

I follow rape-is-fom-god-Mourdock: compromise is when the Republicans agree with Democrats.

Someone recently, at one of the TV shows commented: OK, the Republicans are willing to increase taxes on the rich. What are the Democrats willing to give? To which I reply - nothing!

How can they compare asking the wealthiest among us - and I don't have any problem setting the line at $500K - paying more taxes, to cutting social programs? These are not even equivalent "sacrifices."

So let the Bush cuts expire. And then let the Democrats start from scratch. Follow the tax rates of the Clinton year as a starting point.

Remind them that they work for YOU.
Remind them that they are there for the sole purpose of taking care of those that elected them, NOT for their own purposes.

I once wrote my rep. an R about position X on issue Y and got back a letter on how glad he is that I am interested in issue Y and how hard he is working on the opposite of X.

I agree..it's better to go off the fiscal molehill.. than to compromise with the greedy asshats.

All this talk of a "balanced" approach keeps me wanting to see the fineprint on how the poor and struggling are going to get screwed just to get pennies from the gilded class.

think we have already compromised for the last 10-12 years and are fed up now with the GOP. I don't think the election is over. We should settle it with the gOP once and for all. You cannot compromise with a snake much less a nest of them.

12. Right. Especially since this recession finally brought home the change in the economy

It started during the 80s (Reaganomics) when we accelerated from a manufacturing and farming base economy to one based on moving money around. When the ones who got the spoils were not entrepreneur and inventors who took a risk, but Wall street bankers and lawyers who facilitated taking over other businesses and made money - win or lose.

When many workers lost good paying jobs, switching to hourly work with no assurance of anything.

Since then, the wages of many workers stagnated, when the rate of inflation was added.

And it now we finally realized that many of the jobs lost are gone forever. That our economy has drastically changed. In the 70s, the ratio of the highest paid employee to the average wage of the same company was 40. In the 21st Century it has been 400. In the 90s it was said that service based economy - paying for services with discretionary income - was 67%. Now it has risen to 70% - perhaps more.

The beauty of the stimulus-generated work, like the WPA by FDR, is that it creates jobs that cannot be shipped out of the country.

15. I am definitely OK with going over this cliff

Let the middle class taxes go back up - it would be to where they were before. The "sequester" would make defense cuts, as I understand it thus far. Nothing to lose.

Do I get upgraded cable? Can I afford that "extra" tank of gas? Do I upgrade my 3-year old vehicle or keep it and pay it off? Do I take some overtime work? Do I pay my older kids an allowance, or get them acquainted with the working world?

Not really the end of the world as we know it. Also, I'm not sure the rest of the world feels our projected pain.

Stay strong, President Obama, the Middle Class can afford $20, give or take, a week. And those making a quarter of a million aren't going to go hungry any time soon.
