2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIf you vote in AZ, UT, GA, TX your vote might count for the first time in your life.
I live in Utah, no, Hillary will not win here but it would be wonderful for Trump to come in third. I've voted in every election for 45 years and my vote for president has never counted. This year it will.
Those of you in AZ could turn that state, GA and TX could narrow the gap and who knows? It will scare the shit out of the GOP if those states we've called red turn blue-violet.
For those who think this is over, and are not going to bother to vote. F you. I won't hate you like I will a Trump voter but remember for a year we said "no way will it be Trump". This year, I'm making sure that won't happen. Are you?

(4,167 posts)I was too young to vote back then, but I am sure there are a lot of people on here who were.

(5,754 posts)I have a much better chance of making a difference now. Georgia wants to be a swing state! I love the John Lewis signs.

(112,568 posts)although I wouldn't have moved here in the middle of the summer. You'll be pretty happy with that decision in the winter though.
Early voting starts Monday!
I was too young to vote when Texas had great democrats like Ann Richards, Barbara Jordan, and Jim Hightower in power, but early voting starts NEXT WEEK in Texas, and I will proudly cast my early vote for Hillary AND EVERY OTHER D on the ballot.
Once Texas turns blue, the GOP's chances for winning the presidency will evaporate, leaving behind nothing more than a disgusting residue.

(8,028 posts)...and I'm beginning to think that Hillary COULD win here. A lot of Mormons, especially the women, are planning to vote for Hillary. Some like her and some HATE her but they hate Trump more. They take their right to vote seriously and aren't willing to waste it on a third party candidate.
I've spoken with two of them, at length, in the past few days. One of them a closeted Democrat and the other an out and proud Republican. Both are voting for Hillary.
I guess we'll find out in November...

(10,500 posts)I hope you are right, though. This is probably the only election that the Democrats can ever win out there.
And it seems like younger Mormons are even more likely to be a Republican than their parents are.

(8,028 posts)...as I noted a couple of weeks ago, but I'm sensing a pivot as we head into the final stretch; especially among the women.
The Republican, Mormon woman that I mentioned, HATES Hillary with a white, hot passion. She would almost rather slit her wrists than vote for Hillary. She eventually admitted to me that she intends to vote for her. She sees no other option and she takes her vote very seriously. With this particular couple, if she's voting for Hillary, her husband will be too...
Time will tell...

(1,728 posts)The last time I voted in this state was in 1992. Kind of funny. I will be voting for a Clinton again.

(1,466 posts)..and I could not agree more! It's so exciting to think we could very well flip our state for the first time in 20 years - and with another Clinton to boot! And since I was just 10 years old when that happened, it'll be a great feeling to know that my vote will be a part of it this time. It will also feel great to embarrass Trump there after his anti-immigration rhetoric...not to mention our deplorable ex-governor Jan Brewer! *knock wood*
And may we dare to hope this will trickle down to the Senate and Congressional races as well... McCain has been Senator literally my whole life...

I think AZ will go to Hillary. McCain is way ahead of Kirkpatrick, but it looks like Sheriff Joe is finally going to get his ass handed to him. Arpaio is behind Penzone by 15 pts in the polls.

(1,907 posts)So far I'm up to about 15 registered repub's who at least won't vote trump. 9 said they were voting Hillary for sure. About 6 still working on but right now at least third party voters not trump. I'm hoping more secret voters will not be voting for trump.
